It remains to be seen if this will be a fitting title to the Matt Cooke story, but I am for one hopeful it sticks.

I don’t know how even Brian Hoffies can read that article and not be rooting for him.

I submit that the sins of Matt Cooke past are less than the sin of those who judge him.

Pug, we’ll see. Have a hard time liking his style, at least Clutterbuck was never in the eye of the Refs for giving cheap hits. I’ll give him a chance. Your Avatar is still ugly. Bring back the pug.

Well………………….not even God himself could make me read a article about him, so consider me judging him.

Since you have read the story. Was the author looking for a warm and fuzzy story on the Wild to kick the season off with? Pretty hard to get future stories / interviews with players if you rip them before the season starts.

BTW, he will develop a mysterious “lower body injury” this season if the Wild get off to a slow start and need to call up more kids to sell tickets.

In case you are unclear of my opinion of him………….I’d rather spend 10 hours locked in a room with Obama then 10 minutes with your guy.

Did you read the article? Its a good read.

If nothing else, fans should be rooting for him because if anything happens it is going to hurt the team. He’s a good PK guy and the more we can get other guys on the PK, the more the El Capitans line can concentrate on 5-5 on the PP.

Its City Pages. I don’t even think that they have a sports section.

Yes, they were looking for a good story and they got one.

Matt might ask God to put a good word in for him with you the next time he’s at church. Yeah, that is part of the story.

If nothing else, you should click the link and read what the basketball rube is whining about in the comment section.

You root for him. I’m barely able to muster any interest since they signed him.

Yea I read the article. Still don’t have to like him. You do have a good point on keeping the top line fresher. We’ll see Pug we will see. Can’t wait for the season to start. Hopefully the Goalies stay healthy and the young D-men stay strong Dumba, Brodin. Good leadership from Suter, Parise and Koivu will help these young players. Hopefully Granlund can stick this year and produce like they expect he can. GO WILD!!!

Granlund sounds like he’s come into this year better prepared and in better shape. So has Heater. Granlund’s play forced the Wild to move the defensive liability Zucker down to Iowa.

Should be an interesting year. This was the year I was pointing to where I thought the Wild would really elevate themselves toward elite status. Yes, I know we aren’t there yet. But now that we are counting on so many prospects, it could be a great year or a real stinker, we just don’t know.

Clutter buck has been suspended as well. Albeit not as often.

I think this is a year that Backstrom needs to have a solid year. Not that he didn’t last year, but if he goes backward in any way, this team is in trouble and they’ll have to really be looking for a future goalie.

I think the point is though that Cooke may never get the benefit of the doubt with his past.

I am more concerned with Harding. I don’t want his medical condition to be an issue and not just for the teams sake, but for him as well. He’s an extremely likeable guy. He’s never caused an issue as a backup. He’s always embraced the role. And we are going to need the backup to play a lot more % of games this year. Its crazy to think that despite finishing 8th in the conference, Backstrom led the league in wins.

I think Darcy Kuemper is going to be a good goalie and our starter in the future.

ITS GONNA BE A LOOOOOOONG DAY!

Thought I’d just change the name so all us Wild fans could just talk throughout the year in this thread.

And now for some great news, the Wild extended Pominville for 5 years. What a great move in so many ways, but the most important being that it makes the trade with prospects worth it.

Another reason it is great is that it signals to guys like Parise and Suter that bought into the old we are building a winner hear that they really mean it.

We have a great foundation here now, except maybe Heatley, who I only mention because he is overpaid and this is the final year of his contract. Heater sounds like he came into camp in great shape and I think has a legit shot at 30+ goals this year. I have said since we got him that I expected 20-25 goals, but I have a feeling he’s going to break out a bit. But I digress.

That first line is pretty solid and I think we are finally going to see a Wild line with players consistently getting 70+ points.

Pominvill’s 5 year deal sets up the Wild bringing in former Gopher’s standout Thomas Vanek from Buffalo. Vanek is in the last year of his contract and he and Pom are said to be pretty tight and want to play on the same team. Obviously, the question is what would it take to get Vanek money-wise.

Not sure I agree re Heatly. A team can waste a lot of time/money chasing 30+ goal scorers only to find out that it’s really rare to get players who can do that year in/out. I’d be happy if Heatly played really well at the 15-20-goal level and gets the assists and makes the plays that enable others to produce as well.

What the Wild really need, IMO, is that X-factor. Beyond what “should” get produced by Zach, Pom, Koivu, etc, they need an unexpected player to have a breakout year and go way beyond expectations. They’ve got the young talent to do this. If it happens, they’d be a real force.

I finally got around to reading the story about Cooke. He’s a goon on the ice, but sounds like a decent dude all around. As a Capitals fan, I would have welcomed him as an off season addition.

Since I created the thread can I request no Vanek talk!

Its becoming a pet peeve of mine. I know all the talk going on about them trying to sign him, but the thing is, there are going to be an awful lot of teams with cap room this summer. I suspect a lot of teams will be able to offer him a nice long term contract with for a lot of $. He’s pretty comparable to Parise and I don’t know if the Wild have room to lock him up with Parise type money.

    Like, the wild?

I agree its a long way away to even think of it. But didn’t you mention that the wild will have a little freedom to trade some prospects with the signing of pomonville?

    Oh right, the curse thing.

As much as i think Vanek would be an awesome wing. i think if your are going to sign soemone for big money, save it for a #1 center instead. we have good talent and depth at forward. but no #1 center. Koivu is a good #2 center but not a #1.

    imo

I said locking him up made trading some prospects worth it.

We will have cap space, but we also have some entry level contracts expiring. That would make it hard to sign him for 5.5-5.8 for 4+ years which is what he will command. I don’t know what other FAs will be out there, but if the cap goes up, all it takes is one crazy signing of a player to make it a big payday for the rest of the FAs.

I think we are ok at center. Outside the 23 man roster, we might be a little thin. It depends how Coyle or Granlund works out.

Koivu gets a lot of grief. I expect him to break out a little with Pom and Parise on his sides.

I can’t believe they allowed that. Not exactly a kick, but his skate moved a little towards the net.

Good for Cooke. Nothing will get the fans on your side quicker than a goal.

And the script continues to write itself.
