Sunday looked at the forecast for the week and decided to play hooky from work after a doc appointment on Tuesday. Gave the boss the heads up and talked to the real boss to make sure the big guy was picked up from school. Checked the forecast again and windy. Then checked again and real windy. Looked outside, trees a blowing like crazy, 20 MPH wind gusting to 25.

Decided not to go fishing as I did not want to fight the wind all day on the water I wanted to fish. Went back to work. And banked a credit with the real boss.

Years ago (when I was single and younger) I would have said, so what I am going anyway. A minimum hour one way drive to battle wind was not a big deal with the possibility on maybe catching a fish, no problem. Blown around the lake going home with a sore back and knees and no fish, no problem.

Now limited time to catch a meal or two and a lifetime believer in Vitamin I (Ibuprofen). Talk about changing priorities.

Getting older, wiser or whatever? I say whatever.

    Ok, enough whining.

I am sitting here laughing, right up to the point that I realized, I NOW do the same thing…Odd..I feel no drive to go to bingo, go golfing or anything like that. I guess if getting “wiser” means I do not go out fishing in 20mph winds (unless it is tournament time) I can deal with this. Nap time?? LOL

After running tournaments on big water for years, I have no desire to use vacation time to pound the crap out of my body any more. I feel it in my back and knees now at 34, I’d like to still be able to fish if I ever get to retire.

Continuing the abuse I put myself through in years past would pretty much guarantee I couldn’t do what I want down the road. I pick my days, and I pick my battles.

    Very well said.

I have also become a BIG fan of getting whatever equipment makes the job easier. Wear and tear on equipment is much cheaper than wear and tear on my body.
