Ok- let me start by saying that I am idiot!!! I was out in the field near my house, doing some brush hogging with the tractor.. I knew that the septic tank was in the general area, so stay away- right?? WRONG!!! I successfully avoided the top covers of the tanks, but after a few rounds, I noticed MANY tiny little pieces of PVC strewn about… Yup, I ran over BOTH of my vent standpipes!!! Again, I’m an idiot… So, now that the damage is done(I haven’t told my wife yet) could it be an easy fix? Or should I call in the pros?

Dig around the vent and see how far any cracks go. Stuff is super easy to fix. A few couplers and a cap and you’re good to go.

We actually cut them off just below the ground and cap them on my parents mound so that they can mow right over the top of them.

Busted…… My wife smells sewage!!! I swear she is part Bloodhound!!! She asked-“what did you do out in the field?” I had to come clean…

Is that ok? I have one in my drain field at the cabin that I would love to do that to! No problems caused by it huh?

Its ok if you are Onestout. You can’t tell the difference between smelling him or the septic system. Actually, the septic system probably smells better than him.

You can cut them flush with the ground and install a new cap. Just remember where they are located for cleaning or inspection purposes.

You can always put a piece of metal on top of the cap, before you bury it then if you do need to ever find them again, bust out the metal detector. I have that then I use the fake rocks to cover up ones used for cleaning.
