Headed up to our land near McGregor to clear trails, cut shooting lanes, etc. Also took some time to look for sign. Not sure this is the kind of sign we were looking for…

Had a pair of them 12 yards away from my bow stand last night about 15 minutes after sunset. They come trotting down the trail, hit my tracks and stopped and then backtracked sniffing my tracks for about 20 yards then continued on on the trail to my house. When I finally got out of my stand I took an alternate trail and spent a lot of time looking over my shoulder. Yes my heart was racing everytime a heard any noise.

Well, this last weekend while clearing trails.. finding the track.. I wasn’t sure if I should be more afraid of wolves or bear. There have always been both in our area. But.. never so concentrated or reported.

We talked to a couple neighbors (pretty fortuitous considering the timing.. one we just met, the other we have met mostly just during season)… and it sounds like the bears have been quite the problem recently as well. Some new landowners across from us got a 250lb just this year (they just bought the land and first time hunting). That.. and some lady was attacked just down the road from us back in June… less than a mile from our land:

you may be able to also find my post from 2 years back… after deer season.. I was sure i heard a mountain lion’s scream from my ground blind. Someone on IDO sent me the link to an audio recording which sounded spot-on from what I heard 20 yards away from me.

Wow.. If I were anybody else looking at my post… I would say that I was freaking insane. But.. from a personal aspect… I am reconsidering hunting out of a ground blind. I changed to the ground blind since sitting in a tree hurts my back. I have 3 blown disks in my back which are pretty bad. A ground blind affords me the ability to sit in a halfway decent chair.. allowing me to spend more time sitting still (I have seen deer from it). But now I am getting slightly nervous…

Took the words right out of my mouth Glenn, we’ve got lots of those down this way and a few of the other tracks down in southern Iowa along the border.
