I find those show irritating. Things most of us do every year these clowns (producers of the show) try to make into this huge dramatic issue.

Their all good where they live and what they do. Tom that lives in Montana has an ivitation to visit and move to florida, think he will like it there?, I doubt it. Even if he does he’ll always be thinking of Montana and what he had there. Eustace and his friend just made a cedar canoe and are paddling it down river to sell it to make a land payment. Marty is wrapping up his trapping season and repairing traps back at home. Rick is training a new dog to hunt lions. Everyone on the show is doing what I want to do.

I’m fascinated to watch it for the scenary and wish I was there but think a couple of them couldn’t survive if the cameraman wasn’t there to help . Also does the guy that chases the mountain lions actually shoot them off camera as I don’t see the point of trying to just chase them away.

I’ll watch them at times but most of these shows turn me off with all the faked urgency and trepidation they think is needed to keep an audience.

It is funny you guys would mention this show. I have not seen it this year but I watched a couple of them last year and at first I thought it was a comedy. When I figured out they were trying to be serious it made it even funnier to the point I couldn’t watch it anymore. The guy in Alaska is a true mountain man and I would watch a show just about him. Old Tom in Montana needs to move to town and open a arts and craft store. He loves Montana but he is Hollywoods image of a “mountain man”. What real mountain man would chase the wolves off his land—he would turn to the camera man and tell him to turn the camera off—end of wolf. The old boy down in the Carolinas is an old hippy and not anything resembling a mountain man. Someone mentioned All Star Wrestling and you probably see more blood on that show than you do on Mountain Men—-what does that tell you

Is this the show where a guy spent 5 minutes of air time cleaning the ice out of his bogey wheels on the old Ski-Doo?

That was the only fragment of the show I saw.

I scratched my head wondering why they spent so much time on this. Could be a good show, but I turned it once I knew his bogey’s were freed up. I was concerned.

Sums it up perfectly for me. I have enjoyed this show lately but mostly for the locations and scenery. The faked urgency really turns me off.

I hate to say this but…. their target audience is not 30-50 year old something outdoorsman…. Also, if Tom in Northern Montana, having live there for 35 years is not a mountain man, then I seriously doubt we have any posting here from pool 4…

Its an embarrassment to men and mountains everywhere. Almost as good as “Tickle” or “Amish Mafia”.

Real Housewives is where it is at!

Back when I could afford cable (before baby) I would watch the show . I lost all interest in eustice. All he does is complain they are taking his land. He preaches that he is a hard worker and does everything the old fashioned way. The episode when he was putting new cedar shakes on his shed and hammering them by hand they forgot to edit out the box of collated roofing nails they were unloading from the truck.

Exactly. He’s always complaining about losing land. Welcome to the 21st century. Pay your taxes or forfeit the land. Its just that simple. Sad but simple. Poor people cannot own large land.

I doubt there really are any true mountain men anymore just because theres seasons on the animals they eat for food. Maybe a better name for these guys is back woods minimalists or a name for the show would be back woods living, but who would watch a show with a name like that, back woods living maybe wouldn’t be so bad. I do watch it for the scenery and what the guys do to make it through until next month. Its enjoyable watching the guys that trap and thats what their doing so they can stay living where their at and that would be one of my number 1 choices but Id run my line with a snowmobile too. I’ll never get close to the title of a mountain man just because I like my truck, boat and motor but its enjoyable to sit back and watch the show. One thing is forsure the commentator could cut back on the over explainitives some, but how romantic would that be. Tom really does know what hes doing and has a really nice house, cleans and tans his own hides and looks like he lives off the land as much as he can. I didn’t see a garden so maybe he goes into town and buys his groceries but still what a way to live. Even the old mountain men probably went into town to sell their gold and furs and to buy gunpowder and chewing tobacco etc. Marty is the one whos the serious trapper and even has his own plane where he can get back into prime areas to trap. A plug I have to put in for these guys is atleast they are living where they want to and I still think its a pretty good show.
