What’s This Little Guy II

Found this snapping turtle all dried up on the side walk. He must have burrowed in when it got dry out and with the recent rain, was now trying to make it back to the pond. He came up a little short.

I wet him and kept him on a moist paper towel and he came out of his dormant state very slowly. I honestly thought he was dead.

I’m going to go let him go at Crystal Lake or some body of water near here tonight or tomorrow.

    Ain’t nature a marvel?

Reminds me of one of Dean’s cookies.

They just get up and walk away too.

Check with Buzz before releasing. He is a ZEEBS transporting machine and should be killed just in case a ZEEB hops on board.

Found near a pond not designated as infested with AIS.

All cleaned up for his release a Crystal Lake. I told him to stay shallow or the fish might get him.

Quite an interesting transformation to see.

This is the time of year that the babies come out of the whole momma put their eggs in. I bet if you go back next couple days you may find more. There is a place by my house on top of a hill they hatch every year :

I didn’t realize they hatched so late. Hopefully he was a straggler. I’ll double check on Monday, of course.

We got a couple down pours this evening, he probably would have been ok.

I didn’t want to become too attached.

My brother kept one for a year or two. They grow very slowly.

    no name for the turtle

but this event should be known as “that time Pug picked up some dried-up snapper”
