Anyone out there using Tivo, specifically with Comcast? We are looking at getting one of these and ditching the sometimes working DVR that Comcast has supplied us. We are on our fourth one in less than 2 years.

Do you have the X1? I never had issues with the old DVR through Comcast. I haven’t had an issue with the X1 either now that I figured out 1 caveat.
When looking at the scheduled recordings, it will also look like you also scheduled the upcoming episode separately from the series. I canceled that thinking this was the case. But what happens is if you schedule a series and look at the settings, it also shows the next episode separately. I guess they wanted to give you the opportunity to cancel the next scheduled episode?
Sorry, I know that doesn’t help you, but other X1 users might have had similar experiences.
I recommend the X1 over getting Tivo or something else to record programs separately. You can record 5-6 shows at the same time. The interface is much better than the old guides.
If you get it, be prepared for a long install of about 3 hours. They are pretty new and were just released in this market.

everytime I click on this thread, a Tivo ad shows up on the right hand side of the screenSeptember 23, 2013 at 6:07 pm #1196357Gotta have nothing but time when I am preparing to deal with these guys. It has never been the technicians that come out, it is the people on the phone I sometimes wonder about. For instance, the one that answered yesterday, Hello, this is Jan, may I please assist you. First off, I am not paying $1.95 a minute for this call so lets use our real names. Secondly, I really just want one simple answer to one simple question that has nothing to do with a redzone package of any sort. Phone support, thumbs down. On Site tech support, thumbs up!
September 24, 2013 at 1:55 am #1196453Our technician was great. He had his cellphone on speaker at the top of the stairs so the call to India wouldn’t drop while installing the “satellite” box in the basement. At about 8pm I offered to let him go and I could set it up later when the we actually had put together the basement and had the TV setup. He said its bad enough I have to deal with them, I don’t want you to have to spend a couple hours dealing with them.
December 9, 2013 at 9:12 am #1369857I am curious how the X1 is working out for you? I’ve had glitches with our “satellite” units. I’ve had to restart them a couple times. Mostly the basement one, which may be Wifi connectivity related. They are always updating.
One thing I cannot stand is the FF feature on the DVR. I will record the hockey game for inconvenience on the satellite in the basement so I can pause it when I have to take the dogs out and other things that will pull me away briefly or when I haven’t been home for the start. When you fast forward the DVR recording and stop, it will fricken jump ahead to a still frame a 20-30 seconds ahead. That means I actually have to close my eyes when I hit play when fast forwarding.

Direct TV. We got the Genie whole house HDDVR system the week after it was released. This was against my better judgement as I generally like others to be the beta testers on products, but Her Indoorsness issued the order and so I made it so.
It’s been awesome. Easy to use, all integrated, watch any show on any TV, or on your tablet or smartphone.
We had one glitch where one TV would not record some shows. Called customer service, an American call center picked up, they took over my system live from the satellite, reprogrammed the box, and away it went. 15 minutes total to fix the issue. Freaky-deaky that they can take over your whole system live like that, but whatever fixes your DVR.

December 9, 2013 at 9:35 am #1369864No thank you. Never liked satellite, never will. Pain in the butt the one time I had it and I was locked in with a contract. I’d rather slam my fingers in the door than run myself over.
To each his own I guess.

When did you last have satellite? Was it in this century?
A lot has changed. Except for cable’s customer service.

Do you have a contract?I haven’t had it for a little less than 10 years. But my friends did up until this fall…when they switched to Comcast.
I wouldn’t know about the customer service issues with Comcast. I haven’t had to call. I can generally fix any issue with the one box by restarting.
December 9, 2013 at 12:32 pm #1369964X1 is great! I have the same grip you do with the FF, I also think they could greatly improve the forward and backward search when you play a show/movie from On Demand. I have had little issue with recording other than it always wants to choose the digital channel. I was able to remedy that in the settings. Satellite is not for me, while Comcast customer service is not the greatest on Earth, I will settle as I feel the product is pretty well worth the dollars. I wouldn’t even think abut another provider for internet. Overall, I would give the X1 a 8+, room to simplify the functions.
December 9, 2013 at 1:33 pm #1369986I’m glad to hear it. The reason I bumped the thread back up is because there were those issues I was having and I recommended it to you before that. I’d hate to have recommended something that ended up frustrating another.
