So I’ve pretty much settled on cooper SST’s for my next set of tires. The only question I really have is can I fit 285/70/17 without rubbing? My 2011 silverado came stock with 265/70/17 that were basically road tires and the coopers are the polar opposit of that. I’m just worried they’ll rub. I’m about the furthest from a car guy you could get so any help would be great!

Thanks Joel! By the looks of it I think the new ones will fit since they’re only 3.5% bigger.

The 265 and 285 numbers are the tire width in millimeters so the 285’s are only about 3/4 of an inch wider total, or 3/8 of an inch wider on each side of the mounted tire. The height is probably a bit different too, so look to see what your clearance looks like with the steering wheel turned all the way, but I would guess that they’ll fit.

The 285 is 1.1 in. bigger in diamater. It is .60 in. wider tread. Try one on the front before you mount all 4. Turn your wheels lock to lock in both directions with a jack supporting the suspension. If don’t clear dismount and return them for the smaller 265’s.
