I guess I’m the kinda guy to roll my eyes at this but if you really….really think about it… What conclusion to you come to?

I guess I come to the conclusion that half of me needs to join a protest at the stadium in South Bend Indiana
September 12, 2013 at 9:01 pm #1194606If they have a problem with the Warrior Image I wonder what Image they would choose in its place. I can think of many more current images to use that they would like a lot less. Before anyone jumps on me on this statement – know that I am more than 1/4 Native American. The owner has said. If someone or the league does not like the name and wants to change it. They are free to buy the team from him and change it to any name they want.
September 12, 2013 at 9:08 pm #1194607maybe the fighting sioux….er….wait, that might offend somebody else. Why not just go with the sign of the times and put some casino chips on their helmets. What are the Chiefs going to do in Arrowhead Stadium?
September 12, 2013 at 9:11 pm #1194608As heated as the Native spearing Issue has got in Wisc. in the past. This might not be the best place for some native Americans to choose to go protest. That many drunken Cheese heads and that few Native protesters may not be a great mix
September 12, 2013 at 9:19 pm #1194611The efforts take on extra significance because, as best we can recall, it’s the first organized attempt at an NFL game to speak out against the Redskins name. Which means it’s the kind of thing that can spread to Oakland (September 29), Dallas (October 13), Denver (October 27), Minnesota (November 7), Philly (November 17), Atlanta (December 15), and New York (December 29).
So does this mean, protests by Pirates in Oakland, Cowboys in Dallas, Horses in Denver, Scandanavians in Minnesota, Eagles in Philadelphia and Falcons in Atlanta and either Giants or Air Planes in NY ???

the Pope and Billy Graham’s son (Franklin) should go raise a real stink in NewOrleans
September 12, 2013 at 10:56 pm #1194618From Wikipedia
Quote:
“Redskin” is a racial descriptor for Native Americans, the origins of which are disputed. Although by some accounts not originally having negative intent,[1] the term is now defined by dictionaries of American English as “usually offensive”,[2] “disparaging”,[3][4] “insulting”,[5] “taboo” [6] and is avoided in public usage with the exception of its continued use as a name for sports teams.
The term derives from the use of “red” as a color metaphor for race following European colonization of the Western Hemisphere, although initial explorers and later Anglo-Americans termed Native Americans light-skinned, brown, tawny, or russet. According to historian Alden T. Vaughan, “Not until the middle of the eighteenth century did most Anglo-Americans view Indians as significantly different in color from themselves, and not until the nineteenth century did red become the universally accepted color label for American Indians.”[7]Slang identifiers for ethnic groups based upon physical characteristics, including skin color, are almost universally slurs, or derogatory, emphasizing the difference between the speaker and the target.[8]
What more do you need? How different would it be with a team called the Jews? Or n*****?
In fact I heard the the majority of the native tribes in North Dakota supported the Fighting Sioux name. So how is this different?
September 12, 2013 at 11:18 pm #1194619I can envision Vince Lombardi with a tomahawk in hand yellin “What the he77 is goin on out there” Sticking to traditions with respect for all cultures, with honoring the american native. Hail Vince
September 12, 2013 at 11:48 pm #1194624Well if wikipedia says how I should feel about the Washington Redskins, then it must be true….
Your examples are ridiculous and if you cannot see the difference, then you are the one I would take issue with.

Please explain for us less intelligent type.
Apparently a whole state voted for removing the name from UND so it can’t be that ridiculous.

Logic doesn’t exist nowadays thought you knew, its all emotional reaction.
September 13, 2013 at 12:22 am #1194630Sorry for editing my post when it was being quoted, I felt I should instead categorize myself so he knew how to respond in simple terms.

Does this qualify?
No but thanks for the laugh. People sure get worked up over dumb issues
September 13, 2013 at 12:43 am #1194638Liberals can’t help themselves. It’s apparently ingrained in their DNA to tell how others how they should think.
Maybe I’m completely naive, but when I hear the name Redskin, I think of fat white guys dressed up like pigs.
September 13, 2013 at 1:00 am #1194645How different would it be with a team called the Jews? Or n*****?
The fact that you could spell out Jews, just like you can spell out Redskins… and that the other one you spell n*****, should answer your question for yourself
buck-slayerPosts: 1499September 13, 2013 at 1:10 am #1194649The Native Americans do alot of things I don’t agree with either. Let them protest Redskins isn’t going away.

Thanks for clarifying G. I now realize I wasn’t clear enough.

Jew
RedskinThese are ALL considered derogatory and offensive by definition in American culture.
Can you honestly tell me that Redskins would be considered for the name of an expansion team? If not, then why can it be considered for a current team given its definition?
I haven’t officially given my personal stance on this, only logic. I personally don’t mind it but I don’t have business telling someone it shouldn’t be offensive.
bigpikePosts: 6259bigpikePosts: 6259dld24Posts: 347September 13, 2013 at 2:37 am #1194673They don’t say anything about changing the name…Its not Redskins thats offensive, its just the logo…Which I don’t get why… Its not making natives look bad or anything..Some of them do that on their own…Whats going to happen is they will change all these names, then they will cry that there isn’t diversity among the league or some sh**…Every year it gets worse and worse, people complaining about everything…

And here’s where you’re wrong. If I said, “My friend Steve is a Jew.” that would not be considered derogatory. And what if Dr. Dre said to Snoop Dog, “what up my nigga?” Would that be derogatory? Let me help you, no it wouldn’t.

This is only your perception. A court would never make a ruling based on your opinion. A court will use fact and known and accepted definitions.

Would you say that into a microphone to hundreds of people you didn’t know? There’s the difference. Would you be worried about how it’s perceived?
Admittedly, Jew is not intended to be a derogatory term. It has only become that when their people were descriminated against. Over time when its used in a negative context, some people view it to be offensive and it begins to influence others.

Jew really has not become a bad word. Poor example, but the point still stands none the less. Funny how Dr.Dr said “ni***” and not a random white guy, maybe a different reaction?
The world is becoming more sensitive and in most areas of culture it sickens the poop out of me, but in some cases, perhaps this one, it does a little justice to wrongs that have been engrained in society for too long. Lets not forget governments were feeding people to lions not to long ago, and closer than that eradicated almost an entire culture so maybe getting more sensitive isn’t all that bad. Now if they want to make spanking illegal……
September 13, 2013 at 12:09 pm #1194690Obviously, not being colored is the issue. Is there a NAAWP- no if there was certain people would be in an uproar- yet we have the NAACP- and no uproar? Not to mention the other organizations that omit people lacking in color!
The world should be sick of the “I am entitled to….” attitude.
I am sure the sport teams with Indian related names, intended no offensive but in honor of the fabled fierceness of the Indians tribes.

By the same token, can you tell someone it SHOULD BE/IS offensive….. like Wikipedia and yourself are ? I was taught alot of things in school that it turns out, were just mind warpers….
