If there is a sign obey it whether it is enforced or not.
JMHO
September 12, 2013 at 12:26 am #1176885There are signs up in the Marina (north end of town) and everyone I have seen obeys it. Put your seatbelt on when you reach the channel, though! The bigger boats just assume you want whiplash!
September 12, 2013 at 12:31 am #1194429In the past it has always been Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day weekend. I ran WOT yesterday. If you want to be absolutely positive call the Wabasha County sheriff as they enforce it.
September 12, 2013 at 1:02 am #1194442Just to throw a little doubt into the mix…and I know nothing about the Wabasha no wake zone…but
On the St Croix they remove the no wake buoys each year. It’s still a no-wake zone as it’s listed on the navigational maps.
How the ‘ell they enforce it or if they do I know not.

this is correct there is not a no wake zone there now even if the signs are out.

Interesting, I recieved my sitation after labor day and before memorial day….spring fishing but not Wabasha
September 12, 2013 at 2:47 am #1194456I’m not sure about Wabasha, but I do know that it is in affect up at Colville Park. I have paperwork to prove it from Saturday!
September 12, 2013 at 3:15 am #1194461I don’t know anything about that area, but down here on the Miss the no-wake buoys come out of the water this time of year but it is still a no-wake zone. There is usually a mounted sign on a rock pile upriver and one downriver somewhere but the buoys in between. But even if it is not, it is marked on the maps as a no-wake and thus enforceable. The DNR and US Army Corps provide FREE maps to those who request them that show the zones and it is every boaters responsibility to look at a map and know the no-wake zones. Most people think that because the buoys are gone that it is open, but its still no-wake.
From what BK just said, I’d be sure to call the sheriff before you go out there!
September 12, 2013 at 12:12 pm #1194477seriously, you think every one on the river is going to pull out a map and try to decide if their in a no wake zone

Seriously, that’s what they expect.
September 12, 2013 at 12:18 pm #1194480FYI- It works the other way too.
Near Treasure Island Casio there are no wake markers. That area is not on any navigational map. I blow thorough there all the time along with the Sheriff.
I do slow down when I get the the marina though. Trying to follow the spirit of what they are trying to do there. (Keeping the wake down at the marina)
September 12, 2013 at 12:43 pm #1194483No wake, that sounds like a Nebraska lake. lol… Nebraska is the king of no wake lakes. The one good thing (and only thing!) about most of the lakes here, no jet skiers, tubers and just stupid people flying around the lake full speed. If they didn’t have no wakes, nobody would catch anything. lol..

Responsible boaters do. When you buy your boat registration there is a pamphlet right there on the counter for boating. Read it.

…That’s the way it is run it. Don’t lose any fishing time. That no wake zone has never been enforced after labor day. …rrr
george55057Posts: 8September 12, 2013 at 4:42 pm #1194545Unless its changed, which I do not believe it has. The no wake zone in Wabasha is Memorial day weekend to Labor day weekend. Last year got finger by several boaters who did not know this when going through it last year.

Interesting. There isn’t a no wake zone showing from Reeds Landing to the Lock and Dam.

If I had the time to learn and understand every boating law and each specific fishing law and each AIS law I would have no time left for myself or my hobby
September 12, 2013 at 8:05 pm #1194595If that is what they expect then why do they post it at all. Thats like saying we dont need speed limit signs on public roads. Because you should already know what the limit is if you read the drivers safety manual. Give me a break that is just plain stupid, besides that it would have to be written in at least twevle different languages so everyone could read it.

JohnnyB’s question was SPECIFIC to the WABASHA no wake zone…so I answered him as accurately as I know. The Mem-Labor Day time frame is not applied to any other no wake zone on the Mississippi that I am aware of. Go slow if you want, but I will continue to go WOT because it is legal to do so.
