Buying a quarter of beef

Anyone interested in buying a 1/4 of beef this Fall?

My dad raises black angus beef and each year any bull calves which are too small or aren’t sold in the Spring for breeding stock are raised as steers for butchering in the Fall. Primarily we sell to family and friends but high corn prices the past few years fewer people are buying bulls so we again have a few additional steers that I offer to my online friends here and over on FB. Several IDO members have bought in the past and almost everyone is now a yearly customer

If you’ve never purchased beef directly before it’s something that you should look into… Not only is it better quality and safer than commerial beef which is often raised with added hormones/steriods/antibiotics but it actually can save a lot of $$ over the course of a year versus buying at a grocery/butcher. Have you ever noticed that store bought burger shrinks when you cook it? That’s because angus beef absorbs water and up to 25-30% of what you’re paying for is water… That never happens when you buy direct from a farmer.

PM me if anyone is interested further details

I should add that obviously this is available on a first come basis and that at some point my dad will be making a trip down to the cities to deliver beef for my co-workers so even if folks aren’t planning to be in the Mille Lacs area anytime this Fall we should be able to work something out.

Wish I had a big freezer in the garage like the one we had growing up.

You won’t be surprised to learn that was the same freezer with a light socket that my parents failed to ever replace. Yup, I stuck my finger in there a time or 2…or dozen.

Would an 8.8cu ft feezer be large enough?

Yep. My garage space is limited down here so only have a 7 cubic foot freezer and it fits a quarter perfectly. Not much room for anything else though.

Will, how many feeder steers are you looking to sell off? How far are you from the cities? I’m making a run up to Alexandria and the in laws are looking for (2) 800#-1000# live weight. If mileage isn’t too far and pending what you want per animal or /#LW, they may be interested in a couple

Not really too exciting… just one well placed .22 LR. If you feel like you’re missing out though you’re welcome come up, pick out your steer, and do the deed.
