Looking for opinions on which type of gutter guards to put up on the existing gutters. Want to do the install myself. We have two big silver maples so in the spring there are lots of “helicopters” and lots of leaves in the fall. Getting sick of cleaning the gutters. I have tried the screen ones that slide under the shingles and they are okay but thinking there might be something better.

Tim,, go out to United Products in Rochester, they are located out in Country Club Manor , take the same road that goes by Kwik Trip next to 14 out there, it would be the road that you take to turn into Kwik Trip from main road.

They have a metal insert that is the best on the market especially for helicopters- they wont stick in the holes like most do.. They are a little more expensive but I have never cleaned out my gutters in 20 years.

when you enter the store there should be a sample up on the wall in back of the customer desk. Black in color if I remember.

I feel your pain with the silver maples. I hate, hate, hate them.

That was the only product I used to install. It is an expanded metal mesh.
You will need a box of sheet metal screws too. They carry them.
If they dont have black screws in stock just stab the screws into a piece of foam and spray paint the heads black. Sometimes you see the silver heads from the ground if the roof is steep.

I totally feel your pain. I have several huge maples on my lot and all adjoining lots have them. The happiest day was when I cut down the huge maple closest to the house and therefore ridded myself of bushels of helicopters and thousands of bad of leaves.

Before you spend the time and money, get an estimate for all new gutters or just a professional seamless gaurd + install. Especially if your house is a multi-story or has lots of gutter.

By the time you pay retail for the gaurds + install them, it may look pretty attractive to hire them done and just sit back on safe terra firma and watch.

I made the mistake of installing the screen gaurds myself about 10 years ago. And discovered they actually catch more helicopters than they stop. So up I went later to rip them all off. Thought about doing the DIY gaurds, but then called a gutter company. Installation was a couple of hundred more than DIY and they were done so fast it made my head spin.

I just installed Leafsout gutter guard to one side of my house last spring, to see how I like them. So far they have worked great. I will probably add them to the rest of the house next summer. They are very easy to install. You can find them at Amazon.
