I burned up the brushes on minnkota powerdrive yesterday. I pulled it apart to check it out and the brushes weren’t real bad but the composite housing that held them melted. My serial sticker say it was made in 2010. What would cause that to happen? Has anyone else ran into this?

I have seen this happen once before, not sure exact reason but we think it was due to weak/low voltage, we found his power cable didn’t have a good connection.

Once we fix trolling motor and the connection it never happen again ,its been 5 years now with NO issues.

Bummer. If you don’t mind me stealing your post – is there a better trolling motor for chopping down weeds? I have had big problems when trying to get in close to topwater large mouth bass in the slop. My trolling motor has taken a turn for the worse this season (age is an issue) and I am feeling your pain.

MinnKota is a sturdier and much more slick and easy ride. You can get a Motor Guide which has more power but is not as sturdy and has a more jerky ride. Their foot pedal is also backwards “turns the other way when pushing down on top/bottom”. That’s my personal experience with the two. Hope that helps
