So today the wife, kids and I took the new boat out for the first time today to do the break in on the Yamaha. We just got started in the second hour when we met a barge going north past the beach. When we got past the wake I seen something bobbing in the water with about a dozen boats flying past it. When I got closer I could see a guy trying to get back on his swamped wave runner and really struggling so I stopped to help him get back to the beach. We almost got run over by several pleasure boats but we managed to get him back safely. On the bright side I dont think he will try to jump those big rollers behind a barge ever again. With all the traffic out there not one boat stopped to help.

Thats just sad
Thanks Cowboy for stepping up and showing you care… I agree with you,,
Not a ton of real caring people out there
What do you think about the Wake/No Wake Zone in front of Lawler Park.. East Channel of the Miss ?
Is it a No Wake zone like the bouy’s say ? or not ???
September 1, 2013 at 3:45 am #1192343There’s plenty of good people on that stretch of river. Let’s not lump blame on everyone because some dumbask daredevil doesn’t know his limits . Ya play with fire, ya might get burnt. Way too much traffic to be messing around on the busiest weekend of the year.

Yep, I guess that’s the price you pay for being out on a holiday weekend.
I’m sure you’d rather drown than get help if it was you?

No worries biggill, I’m not that stupid to be wave running in back of barges to jump the rollers. Some people have no clue.September 1, 2013 at 1:06 pm #1192353

it still amazes me how some people just don’t get it… This weekend of all weekends is the craziest and busiest of all weekends…
I have lived on p10 most all my life and have seen it go from busy to over populated…
I would support a program to where if you purchase a boat or renew your registration you must pass a basic skills test…
I’m sure there would be some that would balk about it.. but if if would just save one life,,, it would be worth it !!!
September 1, 2013 at 1:16 pm #1192355I agree 100% way to many people out there just dont pay attention or care.
hunter1723Posts: 349September 1, 2013 at 2:24 pm #1192360So if your boat stalled and stranded in front of a barge you wouldn’t need any help? Don’t say you would never need any help because you never know what could happen to you. The craziest things have happened to people! I would have helped him too and tried to educate him a little in the process!
September 1, 2013 at 8:33 pm #1192377I lacked common sense today.
When the tuna boat went inside the channel markers to go around us and came within two feet of my rod in the rod holder….I should have been thinking and taken pictures.
But to be expected I guess when I have to share my river.

How dare they, did you get any nibbles?September 1, 2013 at 9:44 pm #1192383Nice job helping the guy out Cowboy.
Too bad other people can’t be bothered helping a guy out.
September 2, 2013 at 12:05 am #1192392Thanks pug I just wouldn’t feel right going by and ignoring the situation. The guy was pretty wore out trying to get back on his machine with it being half full of water.
September 2, 2013 at 12:36 am #1192393Way to go Cowboy! We have all seen people do stupid things. Some that really annoy us. But when anyone is in trouble, smart or stupid, annoying or not a person that can look himself in the mirror will go to help.
September 3, 2013 at 2:03 am #1192545Way to go Cowboy. I have helped several people on the water or at the landing over the years. Some were stupid and some just had bad luck. All made me feel that I had done something positive and all of them gave me a story to tell.
