Lost my buddy today

Lost my hunting buddy today. Let him out earlier and played around with him. He seemed the same old energetic dog as usual. I went out to get him, and found him laying in the yard. Not sure if he had a heart attack or seizure because the ground was all beat up around him. One of the hardest things I ever had to do was to dig the hole for him. Best all around upland bird dog I have ever hunted behind by far! I’m going to miss him so much! Rest in piece my friend! Our family will have a spot in or hearts for him forever!

Here are some pictures of him hanging out with our recent addition to our family. They were buddies from the beginning.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Better that he went in his own way than you having to put him down. We had to put down our 14 1/2 year old yellow lab last fall. Our vet came right out to the house. It was the toughest thing I have ever had to do.

We keep the memories and pictures close at hand. Even 8-9 months later its tough but we do have our 3+ year old Llewellin Setter that helps.

Once again sorry for you loss.

I feel your pain bro! I had to hold my best and say my goodbyes last year when his back legs gave out. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do

Part of the poem by Rudyard Kipling’s says it best.

    The power of the dog,

When the body that lived at your single will,
With is whimper of welcome is stilled (how still)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
    Is gone-wherever it goes-for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give you heart to a dog to tear.

So sorry…This has always helped me when thinking about my Buddies that have gone ahead…

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Sorry for your loss. That is a tough way to loose a freind. Remember the good times. Went through it just a year ago. Just now looking for another to add to the family. Hope the pup I find is as good as the last two.

You have memories to look back at. When it gets painful you can be thankful for great times you had together.

It isn’t easy. RIP good boy.
