    Hey everyone!

I’ve been a long time “guest” looking to meet a lot of new people on here and continue to expand my knowledge!

I’m heading to Lake Miltona Sept 5th and have never fished it before… Looking for any tips and advice if at all possible! Mainly looking for eyes but willing to fish for anything!

Sunday meeting up with Jason Hamernick to chase some big girls, but I have a lot of time and fishing to do!

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome Josh! I have no idea where Lake Miltona is, but thought I’d just say hi and welcome.

Hi Josh, welcome! You should have a great time Muskie fishing with Jason. I’ve heard nothing but good reviews from people that fish with him. I’m sure you’ve looked at a map of the lake, but Miltona has some incredible structure. The jig and minnow bite should just be starting around that time. Your average angler will head out to 50-80 feet of water and catch 50-100 walleye a day, mostly 10-12” long and a couple keepers. Many of these fish die after they swim away (you can see em piled up with an underwater camera), so I’d recommend not fishing the deep holes. Not only is it very hard on the fish, the nice sized fish will be shallower. The deepest you should ever have to go would be 40’, but usually 15’-30’. Also trolling after dark is very effective. Head up into 4-8 fow and troll #5 and #7 Lindy Shadlings. I’ve yet find a more productive lure for trolling after dark in the Alexandria lakes area. Good luck!

    Hey Joe,

I have a ton of husky jerks, scatter raps, shad raps and salmos. Is the lindy shadling something you think I should pick up? Any colors in particular?

I have done some night fishing on Mille Lacs with husky jerks in the fall and they seem to produce really well.

Also, what minnows do you usually use when you got a jig on? Anyone ever do any leadcore or tossing taildancers out as well?

    thanks!

Hey Josh sorry for the slow reply! My wife and I just had a baby boy, so I’ve been a bit busy

I prefer shad style baits vs. long profiles like a husky jerk on Miltona. I used to use the long profile baits all the time but in recent years nothing can seem to beat a Shadling. I’ve fished with friends that swear by Salmos and Rapalas. After going 15-3 one night he finally begged me for a Shadling. I’d pick up the perch pattern colors in size #5 and a few #7.

Fathead minnows work great for jigging.

Leadcore can be very productive plus you get some bonus critters as seen in the pic! Good Luck.
