Just curious, why did you label this thread global warming if all you going to look at is North America?

How does looking at the highs & lows of one country apply to “Global” warming trends?

Correction….this study doesn’t even incorporate all of North America, only the U.S.

Not to mention, it only looks at the last 4 weeks.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking a position here at all.

But I do wonder, do you have any facts concerning actual global warming or cooling or long term climate change of any kind?

Al Gore likes to call global warming “deniers” flat earthists. In reality it was people who believed the earth was flat who ridiculed people for believing otherwise. They said that there was a consensus that the earth was flat and that the debate was over.

It is very dangerous when scientist or anyone for that matter want to close a debate.

By the way, it isn’t a cooling trend, its either a plateau or pause depending which flat earthist you talk to.

This debate isn’t political. In fact, there is no current or ongoing debate at all. Completely irrespective of party-lines, funding sources, continents, cultures, and blame, the global community, scientific and otherwise, and its mountain of peer-reviewed evidence has reached a unanimous consensus. They’ve moved well beyond the question of whether or not climate change is real and are now focusing on related topics.

Currently, most efforts are now focused on measuring and modeling rates, along with mitigating the effects of a warming climate.

Haha. I see Gore is likening us non-believers as racists and homophobes. Since you don’t agree with me, I’ll just call you names. Well, it worked in 4th grade.

I think they need to work really hard on those models.

To your point regarding closing the book on climate change, completely agreed. As new evidence comes to light, it can continually be compared, contrasted, and tested against existing and reviewed knowledge. I think that’s the beauty of science. Always evolving when/where new findings become available. Specifically regarding climate change, there would need to be an avalanche of directly conflicting evidence, world-wide, to change the consensus.

Regarding models, which ones are we talking about?

I enjoy slowly working a lindy rig and leech on waypoints number 10 and 11 on my lake on a beautiful summer evening just before sunset while enjoying a ice cold michelob golden draft light and feeling that tap tap… Al who?

The 6 or so IPCC models (and independent ones), the infamous hockey stick models. None of which accounted for a pause in warming.

I am not exactly a climate change skeptic. I do think any unnatural warming is probably more related to solar cycles, rain forest deforestation, volcano activity and water vapor. I am not saying CO2 has no affect either.

My skepticism is a lot more related to some of the proponents of climate change. I push back when people say one thing is going to happen and it doesn’t or people who arrogantly dismiss any opposing views. I certainly have a hard time trusting them. Especially when they want to squash any opposition by mockery or brute force.

But when you get down to it, the one model I really would like to study is the ageless wonder Christy Turlington.

I’d feel the same way if global warming didn’t affect economics through laws and policies.

I’m not so sure Obamacare has any relevance in a discussion about global warming. My .02$

Jury is still out for me as to whether human activity has any real impact on climate, or if it is just a trend in this ever-changing earth, but one thing for sure is the glaciers are receding. Look at pictures from the early 1900’s of Glacier National Park and Glacier Bay in Alaska. Greenland is loosing ice and Antarctica has land exposed that has never been seen since it’s discovery. How far this will go, how fast will it continue, when it may reverse who knows? All you can do is hang on and enjoy the ride.

There was a meeting by some of the worlds top scientists within the last month and their conclusion is some of the warming is by humans. I wasn’t listening that close or hear as much as I wanted too so I can’t elaborate any. The world is definately warming because looking at old pictures from back in the early 1900’s and seeing the same area today, and there’s quite a difference.

Fred and his son that are miners on the show gold rush are looking to mine a creek that they said was covered with a glacier way back when there was the last gold rush in Alaska.

What do I think, A wild uneducated guess is that humans are playing a part in it but don’t know how much. Alot of pristine coral reefs are disappearing or are gone. Wildfires have been happening for millions of years and those coral reefs made it through so It makes me wonder how come all of a sudden, in the last 50 years, they are dieing out. 1000’s of Volcano eruptions, huge wildfires that burned for months, maybe even years, have come and gone with no harm to the reefs. How come since the industrial revolution things have been changing, not as much when it began, but have been lately, the last 75 too 100 years. I’m convinced somethings happening and I wish I knew.
