Has anybody used them? Are they worth $200.00?

I’m interested too. I’m done with the Shinanos under $150.

I used to be a big Quantum fan back when the Energy model was new.

I purchased an EXO this spring and used it pretty much exclusively the first 5-6 times out. I really don’t have anything negative to say about it. After those 5-6 times out though, I have gone back to mostly using Shimano Stradic Ci4’s. I just feel the Ci4 is much smoother and if I’m going to spend $200 on a reel, the Shimano would be my first choice. That is my opinion. You probably wouldn’t be disappointed with an EXO.

I would take a hard look the the Lew`s reels hard to find a better reel in the price range. This is coming from a die hard Shimano moving to Diawa now contemplating going with Lew`s. Hard to find a bad word any where about them.

I assume your referring to spinning reels, if so YES! That is the majority of the spinning reels in my boat that I’ve been guiding with. Needless to say, they have seen more use than most and are performing flawlessly.

The key things i would compare between equal grade models in each manufacture would be:

body and side cover material – is it alluminum, titanium, alloy????

Stacked ceramic front-adjustable drag system – You would be surprised how many reels still use oiled brass washers?????? or Carbon disks which absorb heat rather than dissipating heat.

Polymer-stainless hybrid bearings – Best on the market!

line management system that will not allow you line to “cross” over the line guide and allow the line to Groove the surface.

Extra-hard gears – Find out what the gears are made of! A lot of high-end manufactures are still using a polymer or plastic gear system to reduce weight. unfortunately, that will be the first failure in the reel.

Continuous Anti-Reverse – Nearly every quality reel is going to have this. Magnetic will be your smoothest systems out there.

Good luck on your selection, you have a few quality choices on the market!

Thanks Randy, that was the type if info I was looking for. BTW, I’m in Denver this week and drove past the new Cabela’s store. Looks good from the outside, didn’t have time to venture inside though.

Thorton had over 9,000 people in line for the grand opening. Crazy busy there. BTW, if you have some time to get away, I can get you on a good laker bite in the high country. I had a blast out there.
