I love the Gander Mountain IM8 Guide series. Dollar for dollar, there the best rod for the money. I have several St. Croix’s and G Loomis’. The Gander rods are just as sensitive as far as I’m concerned. They’re worth a try for $50…
I use to buy used St. Croix rods from a bait and tackle store that was able to get their hands on rods that had been returned with broken tips etc. Everytime they got some in I was there buying them. Did matter to me that they were not perfect because they were St. Croix rods. Now I am able to buy new ones and boy are they ever great rods. St. Croix rods-I’m in love with them.
I’m a Loomis man personally. I’ve tried and liked many other brands, but have found the most happiness for myself with G.Loomis.
Say Tuck, Did you get that 9’6″ bobber rod you were talking about some time ago? I’d sure like to take a look at that sometime when you come up to the pond.
Definatly St. Croix here as well but they have to be Customs from HOOKED ON FISHING the store bought ones I am not happy with many things but the Customs on the other hand I am completely in love with. Thanks MIKE AND MIKE for alaways making such Quality rods
I really like the Cortland rods. Great warranty, quality graphite, and yet priced very competitive compared to St. Croix and GLooomis. I’ve tried Fig Rig rods also and really like the Light Action…not really in favor of the heavy rods with this brand manufacturer.
Another vote for St. Croix Avids. I like Ugly Sticks for Catfishin. Still looking for a favorite trolling rod though.
Check out the Wild River St. Croix rods and also the fiberglass rods from St. Croix. Clicking on the words St. Croix Rods in my signature will take you to their website. Thanks, Bill
ST. CROIX 1ST, I also use Scheels and Gander Tournament Series IM8 Rods, good money and seem to be as good as my Croix’s. I also am an Ugly Stick user.
I agree with krisko that st croix is #1 but the scheels IM8 tounament series rods are nice and have a over the counter replacement. I cant afford to have every rod be a st croix, though someday I hope to swap them all out, so when I can get a $80 scheels rod on sale for $40 I buy it.
For the money, my favorites are Fenwick. I can’t believe they haven’t been mentioned yet. My buddy was big St. Croix man until he broke 3 of them in a year. Not saying this is the norm, but the feel of a Fenwick is no different than a Croix, Loomis, etc. Just a price tag.
