Did I read the regulations right? MN deer opener is Nov 9th this year? This is the second Saturday in Nov. I thought opener is usually the first Sat. Interesting. Well, just an FYI – antlerless permits for lottery areas are due by Sept 5th.

That is correct, regular firearms seasons start on 11/9. Not sure what prompted the switch from the first full weekend in November, but it’s on the DRN website.

It’s fine with me. With as warm as it has been over the past 15 years, I’m all in favor of a later start. I remember the good old days when we could count on snow on the ground for at least 2 weekends of the season, if not all 3!

If Minnesota’s season were to open on the 1st weekend it would 11-2 and by law Minnesota can not open their firearm season before 11-3. That has always been the law, nothing has changed !

That’s is what I always thought, I can’t ever rememeber a Nov 1st,2nd or 3rd opener. Didn’t realize it was a law though.

It starts late because Thanksgiving is late this year [28th]. The 3A season starts the Saturday the 9th and ends Sunday evening ,the 17th. Monday the 18th thru Friday 22 are the down days, same as always.

That is what I thought as well Tom. There is always 5 days between the two seasons in zone 3 and second season always falls on the week of Thanksgiving. That way kids that are off from school and allot of adults are off from work and gives them all more days to hunt. This has always been a big family tradition for allot of families in MN.
