I’m taking my 858C HD in to Canada this weekend instead of my Piranha 160 portable. I’ve usually gotten a full week on one battery and would like to know what I can expect with the new depth finder. Does anyone have any experience with this setup?

Are you referring to one of the small gel cell batteries in the area of 7ah?

Your 858C uses way more juice than a grayscale Piranhamax. I would guess you’ll get in the range of 15-20 hours.

The 858C (not SI) is spec’d for a draw of 780Mah which =.78 amps per hour. A 7ah battery will be just under 10 hours depending on how often you turn it on/off, screen brightness…..
    Power Draw: Lights off: 780mA

I have 2 8AH gell cells. Are there any small 12 V solar chargers that would work well with this set up. I could hopefully recharge one while using the other. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Cabela’s. Search for solar chargers. $20-$70

I ran a 787 with external gps antenna on a 7ah battery and got 4-6 hrs out of it. Granted it was an older battery. You also have to keep in mind if running gps, the external antenna also draws power so it to will suck some juice.

I upgraded to a 9 ah recently but havent had a chance to try it out yet. As for the solar panel, find one that has the highest charging output, but is still packable and fits the budget! My wall charger is 500 mah and recharges a battery from 25% to full in approx. 7-8 hrs if that gives you some comparison.

I’ve used my 898 as a GPS on the ice in the past. 6hrs tops. No sonar. 7ah battery. Eventually I just brought two batteries and shut it off when not in use.
