The trip is over but the memories will last a life time. We left for Webster S.D. last wednesday evening after a long ride from Dubuque IA we finally arrived 2:00am. We set up shop & got a quick nap and were on the water by 6:00.

Day 1 – Our plan was to fish 2 lakes the first 2 days then fish our favorite the last day. After a lot of turns and directions from numerous locals we arrived at one of the Dry Lakes that has been on fire lately. Ladies and Gentlemen I have never seen anything like this, a tiny lake with over 150 boats on it. The fishing was solid as we had our 3 person limit in 2 hrs pulling #5 shad raps in perch and jointed shad raps in hot perch. After that lake we went to Horseshoe for some great smallie action on dropoffs and points. From talking to other people we should have been fishing the main lake basin. After that lake it was back to the hotel for beer, bags, and a good fish fry.

Day 2 – This was absolutely my favorite day of fishing we fished Waubay and pounded the 1.5 to 2 lb white bass all day. With the W.B. there was also the bonus limit of Walleye and the occassional dandy perch and perfect pickling size Northern. We fished wind swept rock shore lines, road beds, and flooded timber pulling and casting white glass shad raps. Let me tell you my fingers will never be the same, I have many battle scars!

Day 3 – We started on Lynn lake this morning and were fishing weed lines and saddles, we did have a few short fish and lost one monster fish which could have only been a Muskie. This lake had a lot of potential but found ourselves thinking why are we fishing here when we are on good fish on Waubay. To me half of fishing is the thrill of the hunt but it’s hard to make monthly fisherman understand that. So we packed it up and back to Waubay for some DANDY smallmouth and walleye on rock points. This was a very fun trip with great friends and I would like to make it out there again some time….. I would like to give a shout out to Quinton B for some very helpful hints and tips. If you ever make it down to Pool #11,12,13 give me a call and I’ll return the favor!!!! Here is a couple pictures of my buddies in the fish cleaning shack from the trip!

    Sounds like a great trip.

I’ve had White Bass days like that on the St. Croix river, and after two days of it…my hands hurt for two weeks!
Two mornings in a row, from sunrise till noon i had both poles bent pulling cranks. Literally throw out your lure and instanly your rod was bending. Spent half the time dragging fish as i was constantly reeling in.

    150 Boats on a tiny lake …Yikes.

Great report. I just made a Post prior to seeing yours. Myself and some friends are looking at taking a trip to that area in a few weeks ourselfs. Looks like the walley bite was rather good. Did you target Perch at all? my group really likes to get on a good perch bite and I am told there are some excellent lakes in the area to do so. How large were most on the SM bass? Thanks again for the report
