I am surprised and appalled that sone professional athletes use ped’s.
There, does that help?
Maybe I should clarify, not that I don’t care, in just not surprised.
When is spring training going to start? I can’t wait for the first home game of the Twins.
Until the player’s union quits saying things like they’ll defend Arod vigourously, they’ve lost me completely. Typical union, we have a dirty cheat of a player, but we are standing behind him. Oh ya, we want PEDs out of the sport as long as the big contracts get honored.
I was pretty fair weather to this point anyway.
I’m tired of greedy owners and a system which allows this type of behavior to happen time and time again all to pad their pockets with the mighty $$. Mean while the integrity of the sport and the influence it has upon our youth take it up the

How are they allowing it if they are handing out suspensions?
Ask A-rods bank account.
These guys can make the money up to the point where they get caught, then continue to do it while making more money until the “if” they get caught again and then appeal the decision and still on the payroll. Honestly Pug you think that if they really wanted to they would not be able to smudge this problem out within one off season?
Change the suspensions, 1st offense miss rest of season plus 1 season. Current contract gets voided and they have to resign for league minimum for rest of years and get bonuses based off of performance.
2nd offense lifetime ban from baseball.

Don’t care about “sports” at all. Not sure why these goons get any attention or money.
when they take a long hard look at (and reconsider) this double standard
. . . then maybe, just MAYBE, I’ll care again
Dave Winfield
They won all the awards, and all trophies
And they won the big contracts
They lost their reputations
Sums it up IMHO

Back then, it was gambling and they wanted to make sure no one was fixing games or scores. Pete got caught and paid the price – BANNED
Now the league wants PEDs eliminated to keep the game pure and they negotiate a punishment??? Give me a break. If the league really had any desire to make sure PEDs were “banned”, they would have grown a pair and set the examples. Simply, they are just telling players to keep making the $$$ and try your best to not get caught.
Should have to agree to a lie detector test once a year and that should take of it….anyway its almost football season baby

I agree with Hunter, things need to be harsher and quicker.
The way things are now is just stupid, it pays to cheat even if you get caught.
Frankly it has ruined the game for me, I have lost a lot of interest. My neighbor thinks PEDs should just be made legal so everyone uses them but seems like most are so maybe not a bad thought.
I’ve been done watching pro sports for years for these exact issues. I want everyone else to continue and more people to strt watching so I can have the water to myself.

Pete Rose’s problem is that he stil doesn’t get that the lifetime ban wasn’t for gambling on baseball.
It was for gambling on baseball + being an a-hole that nobody inside baseball could stand.
Charlie Crybaby can p!ss/moan all he wants about it, but the fact of the matter is that he’s in the same boat as A-Roid–sorry–A-Rod: Everyone inside of baseball hated his guts, not because of jelously about how good he was, but because he was an assh0le.
What Pete Rose has NEVER understood is that he’s never going to badger baseball into lifting the ban. Ain’t gonna happen. He’d be far better off being contrite and trying to rehab his image and by trying give back to baseball.
Doing the whole “Ha-ha MLB, I wasn’t so bad, was I?” s#1t is just proving again what everyone always knew: Charlie Hustle is really Charlie A-hole and that’s why he’ll never live to see the ban lifted.

Reinstatement or no reinstatement isn’t really the principle
It’s the double standard (makes it look like they’re wussin’ out now)
If they wanna ban Rose for life, that’s fine … but then ban the Roid Boys too
I think Randy Weiland’s response to my post summed it up pretty good

OK, point taken.
But what you have to think about is how times have changed since the Pete Rose scandal.
You see, back then, there just weren’t that many total pr!cks in baseball and Pete Rose was either the biggest or at least was in everyone’s top 3. So he REALLY stood out as THE biggest jerkbait in baseball and therefore made himself a huge target.
Now, there are so many pr!cks, a-holes, jerkbaits, and asshats in baseball that it doesn’t seem like that big a deal. Granted, A-Roid is without question the biggest [censored] in baseball, but because everyone in baseball is now exposed to pr!cks on a daily basis, they’ve become largely immune to them.
Rose’s lifetime ban would have been lifted long ago if he hadn’t continued to be a jack[censored].

and basketball … Rodman, LeBron, (need I go on?)
and most other sports too; although, granted, NHL does kinda seem to be the exception
anyhow the prevalance of asshats (owners AND players) in the major sports gets back to the original point of this thread … it’s a major reason why many of us have tuned them out
Lets not limit the assclowns to being in sports. Society as a whole is going down hill with a total lack of respect for other humans and personal property.
The things I see on the nations streets these days are embarrassing and disgraceful to some degree.
yup
I believe a lot of it stems from a lack of parenting
of course if the parents have no concept of proper behavior themselves, welll …

I totally agree with you.
I’m making a serious point, though. I really do think professional athletes in general are much less loved and idolized by fans these days and bad behavior has become so much the norm that there’s no “shock factor” left. Ho-hum, athletes getting busted for PEDs. You don’t say…
That was not the case back when Rose got busted for gambling. Because the shock factor was much higer back then and combined with the fact that Rose was not well-liked within MLB, and there you have the reason for his lifetime ban.
I would also say that while it might seem that Rose’s “crime” was relatively minor, but remember that THE biggest baseball scandal in history up to that point involved gambling and game fixing. So there was a historical precident for coming down hard on gamblers because of what happened in baseball’s past.

Really?? to some degree?? I think your grossly understating the fact. I don’t care if its the streets, sports, or anywhere else. Things are getting awfully dam pathetic when people give you weird looks for holding a door open for an elderly lady at a department store…or stopping because people are in a cross-walk. What ever happen to a genuine desire to help and be part of a solution? Remember taking pride in a job well done?? Now, the majority is looking out for ME with absolutely no regards to what and how their actions impact others. Disgusting!!
NHL? Remember Minnesota’s own Sean Hill? First player banned 20 games for testing positive for Steroids.
I don’t know if the list of PEDs in the NHL is as extensive as the other sports.
Painkillers and speed are likely the drugs of choice in the NHL.

You talking Boogaard, Yzerman, Probert and Coffey?
Not pointing any specific fingers. Just seems that with the violent nature of the game and the number of games played a week that those might be the drugs of choice.
I’m not a NHL player so I couldn’t say for sure.
