We don’t want to spend more than 3 to 3.5 hours driving one way, she does not travel well over that amount of time.

Thoughts are Duluth, Door County, Apostle Islands area, maybe take in the waterfalls of northern WI.

We both enjoy the outdoors, looking to relax for a few days after a very stressful beginning to the year. Maybe even a few days next to a pool enjoying some beverages or a nice sandy beach?

    Places and things to see?

Hard to go wrong in Door Co. especially if you want to chase a few brown bass. My wife and I went there annually before the kids. Now about every other year.

Duluth would be good. You could day trip to places like Grand Marais, Gooseberry Falls, and Splitrock Lighthouse

St. Germain Lodge/Fibbers ((715) 542-3433) in St. Germain… can get to the UP MI waterfalls, see Lake Superior, take in Minocqua and Eagle River… Check out the Mercer/Hurley area and the TFF… Under 3 hours and very good fishing right across the street!!!

Give it one more week up here and most of the kiddos will be heading back to school and the traffic dies some…

OK looks like she would like to go to Duluth. Any suggestions on place to go, I mean the not everyday type places. Good food, good drinks, everyone knows about the aquarium, the Mansions and parks. We like to bar hop and have fun.

Duluth proper is kind of a crap hole if you ask me. I cant imagine bar hopping there. Canal park would be fun for that and there are some cool stores and it wont take you day to go through them. You could even take a spin up to Two Harbors. Beautiful drive along the lake.

You could always take a spin over to the slums, I mean Superior, Wi across the bridge.

I think we will be staying in the Canal Street area. Two Harbors is a must, I haven’t been there in years and she has never been in Duluth period.

I think you picked a great spot. There is something special about being next to a massive body of water, whether it salt or fresh. Coming in from the south on 35 is such a cool view. My wife and I try to make it there every year and stay overnight every few. Always canal park. Always fun.

Looks like you have a spot picked to stay. I’ve been to Grand Superior lodge a few times renting a small cabin and it was nice my wife really enjoyed it.

    Have a great time

That was on my list, one of the DDD with Guy Fieri stops. We will be staying at the Suites Hotel on Lake St. Close to Club Saratoga!

Room prices there during the week with my discount could not be beat for a Jacuzzi Suite with King Bed, Stove, Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Microwave, and all the needed utensils.

I don’t think we will tour the Glensheen Mansion, but I’m sure we will take in the gardens. We both enjoy a beautiful garden.

If you are the adventurous type I would recommend the Alpine Coaster at Spirit Mountain. It’s a little expensive but you have to try it once, or twice. The views are great while making your way downhill too.

We had a great time. Anchor Bar in Superior for Burgers was great, it’s a dive but great Burgers at a very cheap price.

Ve Bene was also very good, for a very nice Italian meal it was reasonable and the view of the sun setting and a nearly full moon rising just after was the highlight of the trip. We stopped at Black Water Lounge for Martinis after leaving Ve Bene, the live music was very nice.

Uncle Louies for breakfast, the pancakes are huge and reminded me of Windmill cookies in taste. Eggs and hash browns were also very good.

Overall we had a great time.

Thanks for this info. If the FW and I ever head up here again without the boat, we’ll try some of these places. I’ve heard of the anchor bar and want to go there sometime.

It is the true meaning of a Dive Bar, but you will not get a great burger or beer cheaper anywhere. Great service and very friendly people.

If you’re in Duluth, make sure you cruise the Sky Line drive, great views. Check out Viking Park, they also have good community theater. Take the shore line drive up to Betty’s Pies. Personally I’d skip the aquarium, small not much to see, $$$.
