Have a 1775 Mr. Pike and been thinking of going to glass, but used.

What years did Warrior, Skeeter, Tuffy, and Yar-Craft stop using wood in their floors or transoms if they ever did?

    Thanks

I think the answer will be “depends”. I’d send an email to each company via their “Contact Us” links on the websites. Try to narrow down the models you are shopping for.

2003 Tuffy 1760, wood tramsom (still solid as a rock), composite floor. I think they went to composite transom in 2006. Ohhwee!, just saw that Warrior in the classifieds. Just as a price point, I paid around 16k for my Tuffy with 150 merc verado, no kicker, no transom trolling motor.

If you’re going to buy used, you have to be able to evaluate fiberglass with or without wood core.

Just because it had wood core parts doesn’t mean it’s bad or even that it’s likely to go bad in the future. If it’s maintained and stored properly, wood core parts can last forever.

By the same token, an all-glass boat can have serious structural issues even if it doesn’t have a matchstick worth of wood in it. Hull blisters, webbing cracks, delamination, gelcoat damage all of those can mean bad structural issues and none is related to what’s at the core.

Just an FYI, all-fiberglass doesn’t autmatically mean all good. A well-kept boat with wood core parts is better than a poor boat with all glass.

My skeeter has a wood transom and floor but both are covered with fiberglass. Never would’ve a problem with rot.

For the most part all of the glass boat makers went to composite around 2005-2006 (Yarcraft, Tuffy, Skeeter). However, Warrior did not until they launched the new company in the last year or so. If you can find an old Ranger 680 or 681, they had the composite transom going back to as far as 1988 or so…
