After my getting my dreadful call this morning( see my last post), I decide to take out my sorrow on our Lilac bushes and Honeysuckle bushes and out they come.

I am replacing them with a property line fence, I am either going with the Highland design(boards up and down every other side)or the Strickland design(basket weave).

Do I use all treated lumber ?

YES !! all has been approved with my neighbor and all others involved.

    Thanks for any help

You will be happier with cedar in the long run. Not that much higher cost.

Do they make a maintenance free fence like they do for decks? If there is such a thing that is what I would be tempted to go with, put it up once and you never have to do anything with it again.

Go with the pvc fence. You will be happier down the road for sure.

All depends on what look want, there is PVC, Composite, treated, or Cedar would that you can use to make the fence. If you use Cedar you need stain the wood so that it is protected from the elements. Treated is always good to at least put a coat of water sealant on the wood to help protect it longer, no completely necessary though. Both of these options you will need to keep up on the treatment every couple of years vs composite of pvc that require no maintenance, besides taking out the pressure washer and cleaning them up from time to time.

No staining needed (40-50 dollars a gallon plus your time), no rotting posts in 10 yrs, just wash with soap and water.

Cedar or green treat for sure! Nothing is completely maintainence free and the PVC does get brittle and will crack and break with time besides doubling the cost of the project.
