so one of the guys I fish with, called me and said that his nephew was in town and could we go fishiing.. so last night we went down to pool 8.. and we struggled for a good portion of the night.. the shoreline that I take my rookies to, had mayfly hatch on them, and we just couldn’t get bit.. I moved over to some mat.. and after learning what color of frog the bass wanted, in about 10 casts,, I put, my learning buddy and the kid on rat patrol.. they had a ton of strikes but few hook ups.. finally about 8 pm or so, I came to a little rock point.. I was truly praying that the smallies were on this point, no matter what the size. Sure enough.. I gave the kid, what I consider to be the magic worm color..(june bug) woo whoo I told.. and had him cast at the rock point.. well gees that first bass didn’t let the worm get wet.. and this kid fought him and got him into the boat.. and I could breath a sigh of relief.. The kid is from Chicago, and had never caught a bass. much less a smallie.. and it was REAL PRETTY.. and for the next 40 minutes as my buddy and I watched and coached. He knocked them off one by one.. They were the biggest smallies in the world but in current they more the put a bend in his rod.. finally just to the point were we had to go, he broke off.. and we went in and stopped for an ice cream on the way home.. Hey.. I never caught a smallie until I was 18.. being from Milwaukee.. and the limit talent that I had way back then.. so the kid caught his first bass, and his first bass on a worm.. now he can go to every neighbor hood park pond and rip them up.. lastly on the way home. the kid just out and out says Thanks for taking me fishing.. that alone made my night.. thanks for being there guys.. Thanks to my two uncles who took me at least a few times.. my dad who only took me twice in my life, and a couple of guys from the fishing clubs.. who took me a few times. . What you put into the sport, and how you make this sport grow, only can come back to help you..
