Last time I tried the local lake all I could catch on a bobber and worm/leech was a bluegill. I thought for sure I wouldn’t get any on a crankbait, guess I was wrong. This 7″ gummer nailed my rapala on the first cast. I decided it was time to quit after that!

Does anybody else have similar stories?, if so share them!

A couple weekends ago the crappies were surfacing all over. It was my mom’s birthday at my brother’s cabin, which means I left my gear behind. So I grabbed a pole and a big shad rap.

My brother said, “They won’t hit that”. I said watch. These things are active and feeding aggressively, they’ll have no problem hitting a big crankbait. Sure enough it outfished everything except a worm on a bobber, although it did keep pace with the live bait. They would hit it if I just let it sit there long enough.

I get 1 or 2 every year on a crankbait while reeling it in. I believe that this may be due to aggressiveness during spawning. Happens also with crappies who will take a large bait at this time.

I always get a good chuckle when you get a half pound bass hitting a crank or stick bait that’s bigger than the fish itself. Fish is a fish and if it kills a skunk than all the better.

I caught a nice bluegill a couple years ago trolling a storm thunderstick for walleyes at night. It was hooked in the mouth on the front hook.
