Looking at an Explorer with the 4.0 in it, anyone have any luck putting on some high miles with these engines?

4.0’s were pretty good motors. I drove one in an explorer and it had about 180K on it.

Wife has one now in an Explorer and it has 160K on it and no problems with the engine yet. Toasted a tranny though around 100K.

Been driving one since 2000. We have 175K on it and keeps going. Only major repairs were the tranny rebuild ($1600) and the fuel pump. Does not burn or drip any oil. I would drive one again.

Had 245,000 on my Ranger that I just traded in.
Still ran great and no oil leaks.
Had to change the tranny out at 225,000 ( I am not sure on that milage on the tranny though )

Had an Explorer with that engine….no problems in 200,000 miles. But had 2 transmissions in that time period……

The crack on the rear panel was a recall item. I had a couple 4.0, didn’t put a ton of miles on them but I thought they were a great motor.

1991 Ranger XLT Supercab 4×4. 256,000 and switched engines but kept the original tranny. Best truck I will ever own.
