July 23, 2013 at 3:28 pm #1185079B C Propellor in Sauk Rapids does over 350 propellers a week. They are very tight in their standards and will turn around a prop in a couple of days. Brian, Brad and the team do great work.
July 23, 2013 at 5:24 pm #1185135Keep in mind a repaired ss prop won’t perform as well as a new one. Have seen this happen on a couple boats. Once the integrity is compromised it losses its resistance to flexing and the perfect pitch and cupping is hard to duplicate exactly as it was. But for spares they should be just fine! Propulsion inc in Hudson is responsible and they do good work.

Interesting….is this true for all repairs ?
I have heard that some props are better than new because a good prop shop can tweek your prop for little things like hole shot, speed, rpm….even balance them. I could see if a prop was destroyed but for little nicks and dings…I would think repairing would be fine.
July 27, 2013 at 1:03 pm #1186030Nicks and dings-yes not a problem. Bent or curled blades are tough unless they have lots of experience with ss and have specs to get the cupping correct. I would ship it to a more well known place.
Dont get me wrong, The guy working by himself in a small shop can do a heck of a good job on an alum. prop but may just straighten a ss without the knowledge it takes to get everything back into spec.

If the repair is done correctly, I would disagree with this. It actually could/should perform better than a stock new prop. Yes, a prop that has been worked on too many times will have the rakes/cupping worked down thinner. But even at that, a very good repair shop will cut the rakes and replace material as needed.
I realize this guy is not local to you, but he is one of the best in the country that I have found for maximizing the performance of a prop. Fascinating to see the props sent to him from all over the world. Yet, he’s just a simple guy that does great work.
