My experience with Tatsu … so far

I mentioned on some earlier posts that I had purchased Tatsu after being a long time user of both Inxizx and Yozuri Hybrid. Tatsu is approx 3x the price but I thought I should try it and compare instead of writing it off because its too expensive. A few people asked me to share my experiences with the new line.

I use fluorocarbon primarily as a leader at the end of braid but have occasionally used fluorocarbon as a main line. Here are my thoughts after 2 months of use:

Tatsu is stretchy just like Invizx. I added full casting length (approx 50 yards) of 8 lb test onto my main line (Sufix 832) on my Lew’s spinning reel. I can’t imagine getting good hook sets with it because of the stretch. Yozuri Hybrid on the other hand is very low stretch and has great hook sets and sensitivity.

As a leader I really had a hard time telling the difference between Tatsu and Invizx. Both are very invisible in the water but breaking strength and knot strength were about the same. Not great, not bad. When pulling out snags, it broke about like other lines for the most part. I got sawed off very easily tonight by a fish that I do not think was a monster (I think a smallmouth, but could have been a small northern). I was surprised at how easily Tatsu broke.

Not even close to being as strong as Yozuri Hybrid. YH is very, very strong and has great knot strength. I have had a hard time pulling out snags (you can do it, but its almost more like pulling braid) and I have never been sawed off. It is also very abrasion resistant around zebra mussels. The one knock against YH is that it is slightly larger in diameter than either Tatsu or Invizx. But given the difference in strength and it is very low stretch, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with YH unless you are in gin clear water, fishing finesse for finicky fish. And given those circumstances I would use Invizx and not Tatsu. Huge difference in price, minimal difference in terms of strength/performance/invisibility.

Anyone else using Tatsu and have a similar or dissimilar experience?

I haven’t tried Tatsu yet and glad we got to hear a report from someone.

I have tried both Invisix and Red Label though. I agree Invisix is stretchy and I was hoping Tatsu wouldn’t be as stretchy; would you say the same stretch or a little less than Invisix?? I think I read another online report somewhere that said it’s stretch is in between red label and Invisix.

Red Label seems to be OK for the price .5X the price as Invisix. It casts OK and seems pretty tough on zebra mussels but the thing I hate is all the line twist around the rod tip. It also is not as stretchy as Invisix.

    Thanks for the report.

I guess I really didn’t see much stretch difference between Invizx and Tatsu, although I don’t have any scientific data.

Thanks for sending the link to the “stretch” tests. I really would have liked to see the stats on Yozuri “Hybrid” instead of Yozuri “H20.” The Hybrid has less stretch than any non-braid I have ever used and much less stretchy than H20 which I only used once and thought had too much give. Plus it curled up and turned into a rats nest on me after 30 minutes..
