So I have a Yamaha 50 HP 4 stroke on a 1754 War eagle right now. The current prop is a 16 pitch 10 3/4 inch dis. Very doggy and I know I have to pitch down. Wondering if any of you have a similar setup and what size prop do you run?

Not familiar with the War Eagle 1754, but am assuming that it’s a 17 1/2 ft’er? If so, I don’t think it’s a prop issue. Honestly, I think you are under-powered. Just guessing.

Your guessing is considerably way off. I had a 40 etec on this boat previously and it ran 30 mph with a 17 pitch prop. I know the 4 strokes run significantly smaller props. The 16 pitch prop on this boat has too much bite to it and I know I need smaller. Also, 50 HP is the max rating for this boat.

We kind of ran into a similar issue earlier this year with trying to “fine tune” an 860 Demo of ours at SBC. The 860 has a 60 hp 4 stroke yamaha (tiller), we started with an aluminum vortex that was 10 x 16. Fished a few times and it just didnt seem to have any kick to it, still ran fine but just didn’t feel right. Then switched to a stainless turbo that’s a 10 1/2 x 12, and hit it on the head, gained in both hole shot and top end. With a “normal” fishing load with two people, two batteries and gear. So if suggesting anything, drop down in pitch and maybe look into a stainless where it should hold a little more water even though you are dropping pitch, especially if you may be on the heavier end of total load weight. I don’t want to assume but I am guessing your boat is the tiller model?

Have you had any 754 LSDV’s with a 50 yamaha on them go out the door yet?

That exact combo not yet, but some comparable to that, we have ran a couple of 754 LDV’s with 40 hp. 4 stroke motors. But at that size boat and engine you would be running roughly the same size prop just a touch higher in pitch or diameter, depending on what the normal load size of the boat would be.

So I have some results. The motor originally had a
Pitch Diameter Type MPH Hole shot
    16 10 3/4 Aluminum 30 Poor
    11 10 3/4 Aluminum 32 Excellent
    12 11 Stainless 33 Excellent
    13 10 3/4 Stainless 34-35 Good

Remember this is with 4 batteries in the boat, 80lb terrova i link on the front, 8 gallons of gas, 250lb guy, large gun box. I went with the 13 pitch prop. I am going to try a larger diameter 13 pitch prop in the future as I have a hydraulic jackplate on the boat. I am thinking a I have a couple more mph’s in there. Will keep you updated.
