ER trip for my Father

Always appreciate the friendships here on ido and it helps to clear the mind when things are not going well.
My father went in the ER yesterday with weird symptoms. Intense sweating and body temp of.101 then starts to get chilled and his temp drops to 95/96. Back and forth all day yesterday and all night. He doesn’t remember the last 48 hours. Tons of tests and nothing conclusive. His oxygen level dropped a lot and they got him going with air last night. Just sitting here in his room feeling helpless. He’s always been a rock in my foundation and encourages me to do or try anything. He’s never looked so fragile and there is nothing I can do.
For the guys meeting me in Boulder Junction, sorry but that’s all on hold till I know what’s going on.

It’s a very helpless feeling when put into a situation like yours. Prayers sent! I hope they can find the problem quickly for both your sakes.

I hope everything turns out ok. My dad went though something similar this winter/spring. Very scary. He had a history of kidney stones and ended up with a bacterial infection in his kidneys. I took him to the ER and the Dr’s pumped him full of antibiotics and they smashed as many stones as possible. After a week in the hospital he was fine.

Good luck to your dad and family.

Prayers with you and your dad Randy. Being by his side and comforting him provides so much more than any medicine can.

Randy, I’m with you on the “rock and foundation” description. I feel the same way about my dad. I’d give about anything to make him 20 years younger and fish with him at least a couple more decades.

I can tell you that although my dad has been in relative good health his whole life… He had a few set backs along the way – bypass at 59, heart attack at 69, stroke at 79 and now a stent at 84. But he’s always exercised and has had great health care to bounce back. All I can say is if you are not 100% comfortable with his health care provider, never hesitate to get a second opinion. Doctors are human and may have a bad day, be busy or distracted or not have the experience someone else does. Keep advocating for him even if he doesn’t (that era of men don’t always do a good job of speaking up).

I’ll say a prayer for your dad and that you have many more fishing trips together in your future. I’m making plans for my dads 85th next month somewhere chasing bronze backs. Many times I feel like we’re on borrowed time but never take it for granted.

Jeff, almost as if you were in the room this afternoon
He spent an hour praising my daughters and telling me how great of a job i did, and how proud he is of my family. Scared the crap out of me to see tears rolling down his face as he spoke. Just hope at 87 I have half the credibility he has. One of the few that still lives soley on his word.

Everyone, THANK YOU for the thoughts and prayers!
He’s concerned and we have some issues to continue testing on. Most likely a combination of heat stroke and found out Diabetic. He told us later that he’s been having dizzy spells and headaches….and just kept it to himself. This afternoon has been a huge turn around and he’s looking and sounding better!
Issues with his breathing and lungs and that is the next step for testing and xrays. White cells are up and low oxygen. Nurses weren’t “happy” with his breathing tests today. One day and step at a time.

And, I know my wife doesn’t go on here and most likely won’t see this. But for me to stay calm and collected, I need/appreciate all the little things she does. Just one more reason why she is my GOL (Goddess of Love). Thanks

How scary, Randy. I know first-hand what it’s like to see your “rock” feeling so fragile and you feel like there’s nothing you can do. Glad to hear he’s feeling better! That’s so sweet that you say that about your wife. Be sure to tell her that.
