Back from a few days on Vermilion and then Mille Lac. Stayed at the Red Door Resort on ML. Great place to stay. We met Fred, Bob and chatted with Steve F. Waypoint Cafe is right on the property and has great food.

    Fishing Report
Not so hot. Finding fish on Vermilion was very difficult, only a few very very small smallmouth bass, no walleyes or even small pike. Mayfly hatch was in full swing and little weed growth. So, we switch to Elbow Lake, just West of Vermilion and found better fish. Had a great Walleye shore lunch, many 12-14 Smallies and one 3.5 Largemouth.

Day One on Mille Lacs was slow, fished the North End humps amongst a zillion mayfly bodies and caught just a few small fish. Day Two was great, at least 25 nice Smallies off Rainbow Island , most around 18, 19 and one 20.5. Day Three was slower, fished four different reefs and only found a few fish. Dead sticking 4in wacky worms and topwater chuggers was the pattern on Day Two.

Last time I was at Vermilion I was not impressed with the fishing.

We were up there over the week of the 4th.

The may fly hatch was going strong. The beat fishing we has was during the early part of the week. However from the 4th on it shut down.

I never had any issues catching fish tho some in and below the slot.

Yep. Vermilion Stinks. Don’t GoThere. Walleye Bite Has Been Awful. I Apologize For The Capitol Letters. Phone Is Acting Up.

I put a short report of our trip to Vermilion from around the 4th in the vermilion forum, we seemed to find a few fish for the little that we fished and thought it was pretty good. It’s a big lake and fish are usually biting somewhere, maybe they just weren’t biting where you were. Better luck next time.
