Simple but awesome bait rig. 3way & weight with 6 ‘ lead., small bead and slowdeath hook. Thread crawler and .8-1.0 mph speed. Be sure to make the boat turn in & out to get few more reaction bites.
If fishing steep breaks like oahe., I would recomend 2-3 oz bottom bouncer in lieu of a 3 way rig.

    Going back to Webster Dean

Always have had good luck pulling spinners W/ bottom bouncers
Sent Scotty out their last weekend and they did ok

looking to step it up a notch and was wondering if the slow death rig might be the key

QB says to go with cranks….

Have tons of them but much prefer the live bait presentation

Only after using them once this last weekend my first fish was a nice eater eye But they pretty much catch everything else in the lake too, got a dozen nice sunnies with it and a few crappies to mix in. Sort of the ultimate multi species bait.

Love this rig and I use these hooks for about everything. I think the extra action triggers some of those fish that normally wouldn’t bite.

I tried it last weekend, and for the life of me couldn’t get it to spin or do much of anything. Good swivel, so assume it is how I was threading it on. I’ve read enough… and thought I had it right. Does it help to leave some of the crawler on past the hook, vs just pinching it off?

You probably threaded the crawler a bit off if its not spinning. It helps to have some one show you or watch a you tube video on the rigging. You want a Palomer knot, with a 1/8″ end piece. Thread the crawler up the shank and over the knot, the 1/8″ will act as a keeper. You don’t want much if any crawler on the U of the hook. Clip off crawler to leave 1/4-3/4″ tail.

I have outstanding luck with them fishing the plains reservoirs of Montana. I rarely use harnesses anymore. I really like using 3 beads and a smile blade too.

If you want ease of threading, try using the gulp 3″ killer crawlers. They are hollow and super easy to thread. You can play with how far around the hook bend you go and see how it changes the action. Once you figure out what spins best, you know how far to run a real crawler. If it isn’t spinning, don’t even both running it out.

How do those hold up? I have been thinking of trying them for some time but never got around to it.

I won’t be buying anymore of the Gulp Killer Crawlers. There terrible when it comes to durability. Just as bad as using a real crawler.

They do catch fish though. I just prefer a bait that will catch more than one fish per bait before being totally destroyed.

Same here with the gulp. They do thread easy, and they spin great, but they have zero durability. And I hate the stink juice that leaks all over everything. They certainly do catch fish though, without a doubt. Still looking for a more durable option to regular crawlers that produces as well.

Maybe I’ll stick to crawlers, thanks for the feed back.
