Very good friend of mine was bashing Gardy the other day and saying he has got to go. I came to Gardy’s defense saying he can only play the players he is given.

Is it time for Gardy to go or isn’t this his fault?

When you have 6 starters batting .235 or less, I would not blame the manager. He is not the one swinging the bat. I would start looking at the general manager, who got rid of 3 good outfielders in the last two years, and has not figured out how to bring pitching along thru the minors to get them to the Twins in one piece.

Name the players and what you think they are worth and the length of contract you would sign them to.

Look at it this way…Ask yourself how quick Gardy would be snatched up (for MUCH bigger money) by one of the big boys if he was let go? He is not a good manager. He is a great manager. He would look good in pinstripes…RR

its not gardy’s fault. like someone else said the general manager and the pohlads make those decisions on players and they want them on the cheap. even after pilfering the public to get there new playhouse by telling us they where gonna spend the money on players that where gonna win. the general manager AND the pohlads need to go………..

by the way anyone else hear that the IRS is looking into the pohlads vault because they supposedly WAYYYYYYYYY UNDER ESTIMATED THE TAX VALUE OF THE TEAM????? I hope they get there butts handed to them.

Yes I heard that. It has to do with the estate tax from Carls death. They aren’t doing anything that any of us wouldn’t try and do. (I’m not arguing that Ryan and the Pohlads need to go, only explaining the estate tax)

I think if anyone needs to go it is Anderson. Can’t think of many pitchers they brought up and succeeded very recently.

Bill Smith ruined alot of work that had been done. I personally believe in Ryan and Gardy. Not a fan of Anderson, i think he keeps his job because he and gardy are buddies.

The young bats need to produce and they need to bring in some pitching but that won’t happen until the kids are ready to make the serious push (aka 2015ish). I am oK with them finishing dead last the next 2 years for the picks that Ryan will have the power to choose.

The twins tried to spend money for once when they kept mauer and mourneau and it didn’t work either. We just have to wait every 20-40 years for them to put together a good young staff.

I’ll disagree with Morneau & Mauer. Morneau was worth every dime until the concussion and Mauer has done everything he was signed to do.

The Hardy trade hurt, Santana trade nearly killed them and of course letting Hunter go was a mistake.

As much as they need pitching I can’t understand the lack of being able to produce a shortstop & third baseman either.

3rd base = Miguel Sano. ss = there are very few good ones in the entire league. Hardy should have been given more of a chance if your alternate plan was washed up slap hitters (Carroll)

Tough to watch Ortiz, Gomez, Cuddyer, Nathan in th allstar game and guys like Lohse, Hunter playing so well. SPAN and Revere sure aren”t playing all that well though.

J.J. Hardy doing pretty well also. I agree with the previous post-The pitching coach,Anderson seems to fly under the radar.

how can pitching coach Anderson do any good with retreads, or unproven pitchers that other teams dump and the top dogs in the organization wont give the guy something to work with?????

I was talking farmed pitchers. baker, slowey, lohse, etc.

hopefully Gibson and the traded for youngsters (Revere and Span deals) pan out.

“Tough to watch Ortiz, Gomez, Cuddyer, Nathan in th allstar game and guys like Lohse, Hunter playing so well”

I agree those players all turned out pretty well. But hindsight is easy.

Ortiz never showed any power for Kelly, also you could see he was going to be a over weight DH type only.

Gomez should have never been with the Twins. He should have stayed in triple A and learned to play. He has blossomed and turned into a good player, but what were the Twins to do with Span & Revere those years if they kept Gomez? I agree with letting him go.

Cuddyer, seems he wanted to go. I don’t know that there was a dollar figure he would have accepted from the Twins.

Nathan. Coming off Tommy John nobody knew what he would do. I have no problem letting him go.

Lohse was hardheaded and clashed with Gardy. One of those two had to go. Twins made the right choice.

Hunter. Should have retired a Twin. That right handed bat would look much better then Willingham.

That’s the beauty of baseball. Everybody see’s the game differently. Good discussion.

We have had plenty of talent come through the team and the problem as I see it was Gardy doesn’t develop them into what they could be. It seems to be an attitude of mediocricy in the clubhouse. Its a managers job to develop these guys and get the most out of their players and I have yet to see it. Gardy be gone!!

But it is tough when you are not given much to work with to begin with. The owners are more concerned with making money than making a good team. Look at when Ziggy came to town and still doing, he spends the $$, and that would be nice to see with our twins.

Ummm, the Twins have consistently out-performed the Vikings. They have 2 World Series titles under the Pohlads and Gardy won 6 division titles.

But…….that takes this thread wayyyyy off track.

Matt Cooks desire to wear #24 (even with the Boogaard family blessing) eliminates him from consideration.

Keep trying, you are stretching to make him lovable, it’s just not working.

If he can get some of the other Wild players to grow some hair on their chests, I’m all for him Pug. I was so disappointed in the lack pride the Wild showed late last year as they got pummeled one guy after another.

Check out Reusse’s column in the Strib. Good column today

Best line in it, Gardy is sending out a 88mph pitcher to the mound but can’t make him throw 94.
