Pulling Tubes

My brother and I pull the kids on tubes. This past weekend was great for that. My question comes after we both tore apart a towing harness. Could we damage the transoms of our boats doing this?

I have never seen any damage from pulling tubes, skiers, or knee boards. I would try to have someone watch the connection points and see if they are stressing or flexing.

What type of harness are you using. I have the one from Cabela’s I got a few years back, no issues to speak of.

I’m hard pressed to think of a scenario where pulling tubes will hurt the transom. Lots of other parts should and will break first.

For example last summer I realized that I’m not as good a boat driver for tubers as I was in college. was trying to whip the brother-in-law back and forth, got a little slack in the line, the SNAP the tube was no longer connected to the rope.

Are you pulling off the eye hooks on the transom? If you had a huge tube with a ton of people, maybe that would stress a transom if it was rotten?

I see a lot of people tying the rope to one eye hook on the back of the boat. If the load is heavy this may stress that one hook. It also makes it hard as the rope gets caught in the wake when you go the direction of the hook side.

I would get a double hook set up. The link below shows what I’m talking about. It would be much better as it spreads the rope stress out onto both eye hooks. It will still be weight on the transom but will be a lot easier on the eye hooks and spreads it out over the transom.

Sorry, didn’t see that you were already using a harness. I have the harness in the link and it’s been good so far. I pulled my nieces and their friends all day on the 4th and the harness looks brand new.
