They do have a vaccine to protect against snake venom. I had the pup protected when we went to SD last fall. Not real common around here but your vet can get it if you insist- jerr

Several years ago we had a shorthair “rattle snake proofed” It was done at Cabela’s by one of the rep’s. He had rattlers, took one out of the box..it rattled, he walked the dog on a leash toward the snake… the dog smelled the snake and went toward it….POW he hit him with the shock collar. Did this a couple of times when the dog got curious and wanted to get a closer look at the snake. He let the dog rest for 10 minutes then walked the dog towards another snake (in a box)not visible to the dog. The dog got a whiff of the snake and wouldn’t go anywhere near that box, even though it wssn’t rattling.
Later that day at home the dog was in the yard and I decided to water the grass using my Rain Train. Turned the water on…it sputtered and spit and the dog took off running. When it started it sorta sounded like a rattler. Hunt where we have a lot of prarie rattlers and the dog never had a problem.

Youth here in Florida got hit by Diamond back rattler a while back. They gave him 80 vials of anti-venum according to the paper. Released from hospital a couple weeks ago, says he will make wallet out of the skin. He was attending a family birthday party and ventured into the woods. Mistake!
