I celebrate it by celebrating my birthday today and now the birth of a nephew at 3:30 this morning. He wants to be just like his uncle.

4 racks of Cajun rubbed baby backs, taters on the fire pit, a few walleye filets for variety, and a cold jug of sweet tea.

But, there is only ONE reason why I get to celebrate in any manor I choose – THE MEM AND WOMEN THAT GAVE OF THEMSELVES to our country to create and defend the freedoms we hold so sacred. As we celebrate today, lets not loose sight of the individuals that have united and fought to protect all that we have.

To those veterans that were fortunate to return home, to all that are active, to those that are Missing In Action, and to those that paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives – my family THANKS YOU for defending our freedoms

X2! I would also like to thank all of their families as well! Their sacrifices contribute to what we all have today.

How’s your neighborhood? You’d think fireworks were legal here in Iowa with the way everyone is firing away.
I must admit it sure is purdy!!

Randy, you had what I would have done today! I just had no time or place appropriate with the “happ”in” here at the house this year!

A U.S. soldier cuts into a cake during Fourth of July celebrations at the Bagram airbase, north of Kabul July 4, 2013. The United States celebrates its Independence Day on July 4.

I was sadden to see some of the news reports of firework shows and other festivities near/around our military bases were cancelled. In fact, a private citizen offered to pay for the fireworks themselves, yet it was deem unrealistic to pay the over-time while other federal workers was furloughed.
I’m sorry if if this strikes a nerve, but what ever happened to volunteers and everyone uniting their efforts for a common cause. Need to be paid over-time for a few hours???? REALLY???? Maybe I’m a dieing breed, but I don’t get it. You can’t tell me that there wouldn’t have been enough volunteers to help out to make an event like that happen. Yes, I feel for those that are enduring a few un-paid days off. Believe me, I feel your pain X10 as my income has been whacked to less than half of what it is. But I still feel compelled to help out when it isn’t an event for profit
