Some of my new in-laws are coming to minnesota for the first time. Last night I found out that I’m going to be taking the nieces and nephews fishing.

Has anyone tried the fishing pier at Crystal lake on Hwy 81 in Robbinsdale?

I need something reasonably close to home(New Hope) but more importanly need to find fish quickly for the extremely limited attention spans. Catching is way more important than size or species.

    Thank you

I have never tried it. I fished it from a boat several times about 4-5 years ago with nothing to show for my efforts. They have been working on improving the water quality since then.

Medicine may be a better option, but that place will be a zoo this weekend.

Use to fish down there a decade ago but not recently. Lil bobbers and nightcrawler or wax worms will usually get ya some little pannies for the kids. Depends on weed growth and where it is at right now if they are thick it gets tough to fish the pockets but you have that whole shoreline to go up and down and find some spots too.

Medicine is better but as said already will be a complete zoo, Eagle good but same thing with the pier and its weeds, Twin lakes kind of blah, Theodore wirth has a couple piers too but never been on those. If you can leave earlier Calhoun and Harriet has the best metro shore fishing IMO you just have to get their before all the city hippies clog up the parks with their frisbees and green tea seaweed shakes.
