Just wondering how many of you have a leech lake fillet knife and if they are worth the money. Also can you sharpen them like any other knife? Was thinking of purchasing one but wanted some opinions before I did. Thanks in advance!

Yes Don passed away several years ago. However the knives are still in production.

You filleted fish for 20+ years on 1 sharpening?????

Original Leech Lakes knives were great (unique double edge), I used to sell them in my shop. I can’t honestly say they were “better” than a quality Rapala Super blade or Chicago Cutlery fillet knife.
Never had much use for the double edge (top/bottom)…

None of my fillet knives ever held an edge for more than about a doz walleye. Now I use an elect knife…it does

Electric all the way! Walmart special works as well as the Rapala, costs a lot less

Although I do have and use a Leech Lake Knife, I still lean toward using my $3-$5 electric carving knives I find @ garage sales jerr

I have had a Leech Lake for about 5 years now and stop by the shop each spring to have it sharpened. The knife will clean 100’s of walleyes each year and this spring I let a couple guys use it and they were amazed at how sharp it was and the quality, this was before I had it sharpened and they wouldn’t believe me. I let one of them use it right after it had been sharpened and he now owns one.

They are made by Custom Cutlery in Marengo Iowa and sold through Reeds and scheels to name a couple of retailers.

Like I said I stop by their shop each spring to have mine sharpened, good guys. If you send one to them for sharpening make sure to include money for return postage, they sharpen for free but DO NOT pay postage.
