I figured out what it is but I thought I’d let you guys and girls take a guess. Found it in my front yard 5 minutes ago.
I’d never seen one before so I thought it was pretty cool.

Interesting. I found out what it was on the DNR site and it didn’t say anything about being endangered. I’ll send some photos to the them and see what they say.
I looked at the link again and maybe since you are in the north metro they aren’t interested?
I don’t think they are endangered. I think their range is shrinking?
Endangered enough that the DNR denied my permit to dig a pond on the backside of my land around the edege of Ned’s Lake. We usually end up with 3-6 in the yard that we see digging in the sand. Also moved 3 Painted off the road in the neighborhood on my way to Wayne’s to say Hi…
As far as a name… Either Timmy, or Pokey…
You guys are missing the obvious. I am disappointed. It was a female turtle, so the name is…
…wait for it…
…SHELLY!

Oh man. That’s bad.
But she has the hard body all men want.

Hard on the outside with a soft sweet inside.
All pink in the middle.
On fathers day I watched a rather large turtle lay eggs in a vacant lot next to my parents house just 5 feet from their property line. There is a little pond by there house but it isn’t much, i’m not too confident the little turtles will make it in such a residential neighborhood
Betsy the blending turtle scurried off last night and I haven’t seen her since. It doesn’t seem like those girls are too rare around here but still a cool sight. Never did see where she may have dropped her eggs.
I hope to see her again some day. I think she’s a single mother.
My mistress Betsy is back! I just helped her across the street like a good young man should.
This photo was from 10 minutes ago. Note the beginning date on this thread.
In concert with you opening querie and anywhere around BK I’d call it soup….regardless of the original posting date.
Nooooo. Save Betsy.
You can have this guy for soup. This one almost had my dogs nose for dinner.
This one was in my yard about a week ago.
I don’t recall the status of the Blandings turtle back in 2013 but today they are listed as threatened in MN. No listing federally but it appears in 2015 there was a movement to get them in the endangered species list. It doesn’t look like that happened.
Sand Prairie below Kellogg, the Weaver area and Highway 74 from Weaver to Beaver are areas that see a ton of turtle traffic. Some areas will have Turtle Crossing signs even. Lots of Blandings Turtles in these areas. I’ll stop and carry the critters to the side they were headed for but I still see plenty schmucked on the roadway. Turtles are pretty visible on a road surface and one would think they could be avoided for the most part which makes me wonder just how many could have been avoided but were struck intentionally.
i hear ya Tom, it totally befuddles me how people cannot miss a turtle on the roads, especially when you see them crushed on the shoulders!!!!!

Best case, maybe somebody moved the crushed turtle from the middle of the road to the shoulder.
More likely, people are idiots.
Worse case, people are MEAN idiots.
We’ve had 6 to eight assorted turtles crossing Trenton Island. The FW sends me text messages and I tell her to get out there and take a photo.
She’s afraid she won’t be able to out run them if they attack her.
She’s a real Soup Notzi…”No soup for you”.
It’s cool to see your girl come back!
The other day I saw a lady trying to save a soft shell. I made a U turn, even though we were at the end of a 2 hour trip and grabbed him and put him in the pond. Once they go over the curb they are stuck. Its not the first softshell I helped.
Been meaning to post for a few weeks, errr months now.
Shelley made her return this past May/June. She laid her eggs in our front yard again.
This one is clearly the one that started this thread. Eggs haven’t hatched yet. I’ll be keeping an eye on the nest to see if they make it out.
