Don’t forget the mosquitos and flies. Couldn’t hardly be outside at night last weekend at the lake!

Up here in GR it has been the worst year that I can remember in a very long time. Dad says he hasn’t seen the bugs this bad since a summer in the 60’s. They are thick and aggressive this summer.

I had one in my office yesterday that poked me once and landed on me twice. Not only did I miss him both times but I missed him in the air twice as well. They are like GI JOE skeeters this year!!!!

gnats have been terrible this year. Have to keep some vanilla in the truck at all times!

Try Avon’s Skin So Soft mixed 50/50 with Absorbine Jr. The boys at the Wyoming (Iowa) golf course used that mix to keep the mosquitos off and the gnats from landing.

Vanilla? Gnats don’t like vanilla? I don’t like using bug sprays – putting those harsh chemicals on my skin and clothes, so I’m always on the lookout for a more natural solution. When I’m going to be in the woods a lot, I try to avoid using any fragranced products. No hair goop, perfumes, smelly lotions. Seems to work. Except for the occasional tick. Yuck.

Absolutely. You have to re-apply every couple hours especially if you are sweating, but it beats having bug spray or other smelly crap on you. I’ve actually had my hands covered in it while fishing and never noticed any fewer bites, I’ll be so bold to even say it might work as a fish attractant. Something you cant say about SSS, absorbine, and other remedies. Plus I actually like the smell

Imitation vanilla works also, but not as well as the real thing.
