steering rod terrible sound

    father in law just bought a 18′ lund ssv. open boat drop in floor with consule and steering wheel.

    came with 25 hp merc on it. the steering rod seems long and vibrates terribly when idling. he tried puting duct tape around the rod to hold it tight still vibrates like crazy enough to drive you insane when trolling.

    any thoughts?
    boat is 4.5 hours from cities bringing to dealer to get looked at not a very good option.

    Try simply calling the dealer and explaining the problem. Maybe he can tell you what to do without bringing it in.
