Drift Sock Question

So wanted some opinions. I purchased two 42″ socks to put on the front of the boat so I can use my 200hp motor to troll down main reason to have them until I buy a kicker. I am not exactly sure(or remember) how fast it goes, but my question is do you guys think its the right size or do I need to buy smaller ones. I really don’t want to go back to buy more though but I want a setup that works. Need some feedback I never used them in the water before.

    what size boat?
I would think the 2-42″ should do the trick.

i run 2 22″ bags under my 203 warrior and it slows it down to a crawl. make sure you buy heavy duty bags for trolling. mine are the amish bags. they work awesome.

16-20″ is my vote on doubles but each boat is different.
Do you fish Mille Lacs? I could loan you different sizes for the day. Pm me if needed.

42″ bags is more like what we would use to slow our drift speed.

I would bet the smaller bags mentioned above would work just fine for slowing down your trolling speed.

    Well I have (2) 42″ and (1) 32″
I hope some combination of these will work.

Well upon looking I only will have available the double 42″ bags. I have to order the 22″ ones that I think I will need in the long run per everyone’s opinion. Do you think I will be able to make something work for this weekend? Or don’t even try with the 42″ and return them. I don’t really want to waste all kinds of money.

You may be able to restrict the size that the bag opens on the front end by using rope to tie 2 or so straps together so the bag can not full open up.

Or possibly tie the bag off only half as deep so it can not fill up as much.
These are just thoughts and I have not actually tried them. With some creativity you should be able to figure out a way to make them work.

Couldn’t you just use more throttle if the bigger bags are slowing you down too much? steering may be more of an issue?

Put out one and see. Too much, add throttle. Not enough, use second bag.
I have a 36″ on a Crestliner 182 with 150 and drops me from 2.5mph to 1. I have to use a little throttle going into the wind.

I have 42’s and like them, my buddy has used a five gallon bucket with a hole in the bottom. Adjusting your trim helps as well. Experiment and have fun

the 42’s will work i suggest that you run both..i run my pair..smaller off the front tie down..have tried 1 and the boat wants to pull to that side all the time..tried off the back but was constantly having to bring fish in around them a real pain..plus the prop and the ropes keep me staring back..get on the water and see what works for you
