I can hardly comprehend how bad this season has become. This latest stretch of overcast rain and cold has pushed me deeper into the abiss. WT@! This will be the shortest summer anyone alive has ever seen around here.

I know I still cant believe it either. The lakes wont even be warm by the 4th of July. Every weekend rain/wind/cold its unreal. Today intown it was sunny for a while and almost hit 70 and I thought it was the greatest thing ever.
June 6, 2013 at 7:36 pm #1176170It does make being at Work a little better when i look outside and see the gloom. A little better…………..:-) i guess we could skip summer and roll right into bow season!

I’m game for that!
June 6, 2013 at 9:11 pm #1176185Poor baby. You really have it bad.
All our ramps to the river have been locked out since late march.June 6, 2013 at 9:20 pm #1176189This round? Did you not see the picture this weekend of the guy gone mad thought he was seeing snakes?
June 6, 2013 at 10:00 pm #1176195I’ll tell you this weather is going to drive and that’s food prices sky high. Over 900,000 acres of corn will not be planted in Minnesota this year because of water logged fields. Over 400,000 acres won’t be planted in Wisconsin and similar numbers in Iowa and Illinois. That means lot less corn will be harvested in the fall. Also the 1st crop of hay will be of such poor quality dairy cows will give a lot less milk due to the poor quality. If you thought food prices went up due to last years drought, wait until all the data is in from this over abundance of moisture.
June 6, 2013 at 10:07 pm #1176198Personally I love it. After last year of having multiple days over 90 degrees by now, I’ll take 60’s all day long. The moisture is going to make for lots of hay and crops. All things the upper midwest needed badly. I don’t know if some remember just how bad we had it last year. Sure, I’ve only got about 8 rounds of golf in so far, but I’ll take the trade off.
June 6, 2013 at 10:35 pm #1176203I was just reading Whiskey’s response. Didn’t see that before I posted. Maybe I shouldn’t be so optimistic. I’ll take wet over dry.
June 6, 2013 at 10:42 pm #1176204I’m with you Kooty. I was trapped for 20+ days last year in that 90+ degree weather. Sucked. Whiskey, all that corn that is not planted is going to be planted with something else. It will all work out. Lets get the lakes filled back up again!

I hope summer falls on a saturday this year!
That’s good. Well played sir.I think the most astounding thing is that we are having a complete opposite year compared to last year.

I thought I noticed a little spring in your step and smile on your face.
June 6, 2013 at 11:56 pm #1176231this weather has been fun for walleye fishing, making the bite turn on with very passing cloud. plus it seems ice fishing might be coming sooner
June 7, 2013 at 12:50 am #1176248I hope there is not a corn shortage this year because gas prices will go through the roof. High priced corn =high priced ethanol.

Not quite true. Yes some will be going into soybeans, but if you have Federal Crop Insurance you can not plant any crop to be harvested on corn acres that you claim prevented plant acres that you have insurance on. You do have to plant a cover crop to control erosion but the crop must be destroyed, not harvested.
And Kooty, there is an old farmers saying, ” A dry year will scare you to death, but a wet year will starve you to death.”
June 7, 2013 at 2:07 am #1176268At least things have greened up nicely. I’ve been a trout bum this week. One saving grace to the gloomy weather is the sulphur mayfly hatches have been going strong. Nothing big (14″) but need to take advantage of the good fishing opportunity.
June 7, 2013 at 9:19 am #1176280Like Herb said at least you guys can use the ramps more often then not. I heard the other day we’ve gotten 20″ of rain already and that’s a whole years worth for here. If the farmers can get in a 90 day seed corn crop they will probably do ok, but don’t know much about corn farming. One thing the high water has done is move the fish around and up into the creeks unlike last year, creek fishing this year should be good at the very least, including smallies, the catfish holes should be very good.
I know with the prolonged high water the flatheads have moved from way downstream and have moved up past the dam, which use to stop them. The gates have been open so above the dam the population should be even better. On the gloomy side there hasn’t been enough sun but I’ll take these cooler temps over 80 to 90 degrees any day, I don’t do heat well and believe it or not the gnats etc. haven’t been bad, I haven’t even seen a mosquito yet let alone one landing on me. 80 degrees out on the river at midnight isn’t for me. Last year things were burnt to a crisp, this year its back to its lush green and the woods and ditches are full of flowers.

Where are you. It’s cloudy and dreary over here in Bloomington.
It was brief. I only suffered a minor sunburn.
