I prefer the middle of the lake and north. From there I just play the wind. Good luck. I think you’ll been in for a great time.

I launch out of Evert’s most of the time on Pepin but for your maiden voyage Coville is the closest landing to the head of the lake. It might be worth a stop at Evert’s to pick up a Pool 4 hotspots map to give you a basic lay of the land so to speak. The river is in constant change so you need to be aware of everything around you. The canline and Bay City Flats are both putting out fish right now and they are fairly easy trolling runs to start out with. There was some floating debris last weekend but not bad at all but keep an eye out. Last weekend the #5 shad raps—anything with blue in it— were putting more fish in the boat than the larger lures but that is one of those things that changes by the day. If it is your first time on Pepin use it as a learning day and get a feel for the area you are fishing—be observant—let the fish tell you what they want. A couple days of nice weather and I think the trolling bite is really going to take off. Good luck and let us know how you do.
