How much do you spend on fishing gear?

Trying to get a good idea on how much folks spend annually on fishing gear. I’ve tried a couple quick searches, but figure I’d come to active fisherman to ask this question. My goal is figure out what an average fishing club “donates” in Dingell-Johnson money to resource protection and management each year. It scared me a little when I started writing down how much I’m spending.

    Thanks.

Not trying to be smart, but where do you draw the line on what is gear? Is a new kicker or graph gear?

A conservative estimate would be around $1500-$2000 per year on gear for me personally.

Sounds about right for me also.

Not much…less than $200 on typical years. Doesn’t count the year I bought my boat or the year when I upgraded all my poles.

I charge most of my daily expenses to my Cabela’s card and earn about $1K annually that I spend mostly on fishing/ice fishing gear. Plus the $250 or so for bait….gas $ for boats, augers and mainly driving to and from…at least $700 TO 1K!

Far too much, about 1500 but still less than used to spend on alcohol. Fishing is my substitute addiction.

If you consider gear to only include from the fishing rod through the last hook on the line I would estimate $500 to $1500. (live bait excluded)

Makes my head hurt if I try to add up all of the rest i.e. gas, oil, batteries, chargers, insurance, depth finders, rod holders, live bait and on and on…

Cheapest of my last 3 trips to a bait/tackle shop was $82.

I think I’m the guy that skews the curve on this deal.

Last year I was a touch over $15,000 for fuel alone for boat and truck on fishing trips.

I just spent $800 on Smash Shads. 22 colors. 4 lures per color. 2 sizes.

I could go on but it will make me look like a complete DA.

Typical year, probably a couple grand. This year will be significantly more. Building an arsenal for salmon fishing doesn’t come cheap it seems. I spent somewhere around $4000 just for that. At least the gear I buy for walleye fishing can be a business expense. That doesn’t include boat, fuel, and stuff like that.

I know how you feel James. Was in Mills FF last night and saw the Smash Shads and thought, “hmmm, which ones should I get. I ended up with 10 colors, 2 sizes, 2 of each….$180 later…..
