The MN DNR will be electro fishing for Smallies in early June. As you know a Smallmouth population is something new on Leech.
They are asking for some help on where to start looking. If you have caught some up there, could you PM me?

Better post an email blast to the MNBFN (MiNnesota Bass Federation Nation).

    While you’re at it Buzz,

How about posting an update on whats happened at the Capitol this year besides raising Taxes?

What’s New on the AIS front?

Very little being said anywhere, so I am sure they’re out to screw us up Bigtime once again.

I heard the DNR doesn’t allow smallmouth to be weighed in at bass tournaments they permit out of leech. This will probably change once the walleye population plummets. Then they will up the limit on smallies to appease the walleye bumpkins.

I also heard that they didn’t want anglers to be introducing Smallies by bringing them from other lakes that can be accessed with a little effort

That is incorrect. For the past few years, nearly all of the early season tourneys on Leech have been won by huge bags of smallies. I’m fishing one on Sunday, and I will be shocked if the Tuma/Ahlstrom or Winkka/Foster team doesn’t win it with smallies again.

I’m going to spend all of my prefishing time Saturday looking for SMB – I’ve caught a few and have a pretty good idea where to look. They’re in there, and there are some big girls.

Buzz, will you be fishing in that tourney by chance?

Hey thatwrongguy, you are incorrect. The DNR doesn’t allow smallies to be weighed in a permitted tournament on Leech. The tourney this weekend isn’t permitted.

I can’t speak for Sunday’s tourney being permitted or not (though I’ll ask the organizer after I weigh in) but I know that there have been plenty of tournaments with DNR permits that allowed smallies.

Way to come off as a complete a-hole to a new guy on the site, btw. I appreciate the welcome wagon.
