Its the wimpering under the bed hiders getting the laws changed to limit normal people from living our lives the way our ancestors intended.

I’m not going to take a stance on this but will throw in some facts that I have seen. Looking back on the 100’s of DUI’s I have arrested in my 10 years, 20 or less have been within .02 of .08. For every 5 DUI arrest’s I have made, I have stopped someone who is under by more than .02 and been released. The average BAC is all of my DUI’s is probably a .16 with the highest being a .30 and the lowest a .08. I have seen people impaired under an .08 and seen people walking and talking just fine at a .30. I don’t recall being at an alcohol related accident where the driver was under a .10.

I didn’t know you were a LEO. Can I call you beertracker now?

Anyway, like I said earlier, DUI arrests no matter what the limit won’t stop impaired driving. Adjusting the culture will. Spend our time and money making people believe its wrong and dangerous rather than trying to scare them.

If there’s still such a drunk driving problem now, than what we’ve been doing to enforce it isn’t working.

Or maybe there isn’t a problem.

When they dropped it to .08 was that part of the raising the legal age to 21 under threat of losing highway funds? Or did it come after that?

I find this kinda funny that everyone is complaining about now much that will effect you dofferently. Commercial drivers are bound by .04 all the time and I sure am not complaint about it.

“Our goal is to get to zero deaths because each alcohol-impaired death is preventable,” NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman said, in the CBS report. “Alcohol-impaired deaths are not accidents. They are crimes. They can and should be prevented. The tools exist. What is needed is the will.”

Sorry Deborah but this is a warped way of thinking. Changing the law from .08 to .05 will not help you reach your goal because drunks will always drive and kill regardless of their blood alcohol level. The only way you will ever get zero alcohol-impaired deaths is to get rid of all the alcohol in the world or all of the vehicles.

The question we all have to ask ourselves is – am I OK if people are driving around with a blood alcohol level less than .08 and within the legal limit of the current law? If you’re OK with it, then you must accept the events that may occur. If you’re not OK with this, then you may want to ask yourself – how confident are you in the same law makers/government who put the current law at .08?

not to make light of drunk driving but with the gas prices increasing no one will be able to afford to drive pretty soon

OR……after filling your tank, you won’t be able to afford enough booze to get to .05!

Drinking age going to 21 happened way before dropping the limit to .08.
.08 just happened 5-6 years ago or so??

The liberals had to come up with a way to pay for that 2 billion in new taxes that they passed

That’s what I thought. Not sure what my point would have been either way.

yeah i don’t really have much of an issue with this. people blowing .02-.08 run into stuff here all the time. congratulations if you can “handle” it. claiming that other things impair drivers too as reasoning to not try and fix this is asinine.

People who blow .00 run into stuff as well, so if hitting stuff is the problem I’m not sure changing the BAC is the solution. People are pointing out the many reasons why people hit stuff and wondering why those are not being targeted. At some point a person needs to ask themselves do we really need more laws or is the risk of getting hit just one of the dangers of driving. I would argue that my 18 mile drive every morning in stop and go traffic is more dangerous than driving around at 2 AM after the bars around here close.

A law should be passed requiring all vehicles to be made from foam rubber.
Gotta go now … need to buy stock in the NERF corporation.
